With all our tests and science and education and expense, well........... hell, we don't know.
I expected to feel pain in my tallywhacker when it passed. I didn't. Hell, I don't know if it ever passed. Maybe is just disappeared or dissolved.
With no pain or adverse symptoms, I probably wouldn't spend any more money. But I probably wouldn't take off on any long trips out in the boonies for awhile either. Maybe some real strenuous work or exercise to see if it starts up again.
Anyway, glad you feel better.
After mine, I did a lot of reading, and I was not happy on the reported incidences of recurrence. A number of guys on here have reported multiple stones over the years. After 10 plus years without another, I don't think about it much anymore. I have some low back issues, but working smarter and not harder, I have not had any bad flareups in several years. But every once in a while, when my back gives me a twinge, my first thought is always.....No, no, no, not this sh!t again (stone). Knock wood.

My urologist gave me a travel pack I take with me wherever I go. Flomax, Norco and a pill that makes you pee orange. So, that goes with me if I leave home for any over nighters.
I know when I had my last one I tried every vo-do solution there was without result. One even so weird to include asparagus and Coke.

Hoping not to curse myself I'm starting to feel confident the rock has passed. No twinges since Tuesday and no knee bucking pain since last Saturday. I saw the asparagus and Coke thing. That just seems silly. The others seem to have some chemical foundation for their validity.

Yep, My problem was getting them thru the ureter. Once they were in the bladder I thought I was then really in for a rough time, but, they passed like nothing. I guess it helps to be big.

Well bugger me O'Riley The same symptoms as previously kicked in a couple of weeks ago and today it's nearly full on cuss words. Drinking water like a camel along with undiluted lemon juice, lime juice, and apple cider vinegar. That with the tamsulosin and fingers crossed hopefully this painful time will pass quickly.

When I got one, since I didn't know what it was, I figured that I was dying. I was glad they told me in the ER that it was just a kidney stone ... I took one of the happy pills they gave me, and the pain subsided for then. It came on several more times over the next few months or so, and I just quit doing whatever I was doing and took another happy pill, that never failed me. I never felt it come out, maybe it is still in there. I think mine was one of the easy ones, my mother in law also said her's hurt worse than childbirth... -Mike

I can only relate to my wife's. But I think at the time she thought that also. Now she's a seasoned pro. Shakes them off like Fran Tarkenton .

Just had an 8.5 REMOVED, # 8 for me. I have a calcium producing disease called Sarcoidosis, and crap forms in my kidneys. Not unlike you Britman I drink a ton of water, beer and thats about it. No soda, salt!! , milk or most anything with a bunch of sugar. Lemonade is your friend however and should be ingested once a day.
I've have had 1 lithotripsy, and it was supposed to be less recovery than a fetch and grab. For me, not so much. It was a bunch worse. They bruised a rib and some muscles in the process. Hurt like hell for about 2 weeks. The nice was no stent. Anyway, drink plenty of water, lemonade and hope for the best. For any of you that have never had the pleasure, I hope you never do. This will make mister macho wimper and express a new a new language.

Most of mine are the fetch and grab and leave a stent in with a chunk of cat gut hangin out for about 5 days. For me, lithotripsy was not so much easier, It was a bunch worse. They bruised a rib and some muscles in my back in the process. Hurt like hell for about 2 weeks. The nice part was no stent that was all. Anyway, drink plenty of water, lemonade and hope for the best. For any of you that have never had the pleasure, I hope you never do. Pussy! You don't like the stent? I had the stent for about two weeks an the Dr. DEATH said it's time to remove it. I said while I'm out an in the hospital? Nope , wide awake in the exam room. OH CRAP! I knew I was in for it bad when he said put your feet into the stirrups. I think they could hear me yelling across the street. He used a pair of channel locks to remove it. This is after two surgeries and two months of pain.

I had a cat once that had a problem going... he wanted to real bad over and over again but couldn't. He had a kidney worm. The vet medded him for a while, and finally the nasty hard dead worm was... hanging out... I took him back in and the vet yanked it out with pliers. The cat was not happy. At least not then, he was real happy later... They do that to people too? -Mike

That makes sense. A stone only hurts for weeks or months. Childbirth hurts for eighteen years or more.

Have a history of stones.... gave an old pill bottle with a bunch in to my urologist to evaluate..... said to reduce salt intake and white milk and some other stuff. Last year I had 4 stones pass in 8 days, one every other day. That was a rough week. I know what the symptoms are and commence the Flomax and pounding water down. I have a pill bottle on my key chain with some good meds just in case I'm out and about and need em. When the pain gets too bad and the urine too red, I get to the VA ER for good meds and further evaluation.

Next time they leave me alone in the room, I'm rifling the drawers for some nice chisels and maybe a hacksaw.

Now Art, who is the pussy here? . Screaming like a school girl, c'mon.....Stent removal was painless and a piece of cake. Takes about 2 seconds, sheesh. I took my first one out at home. I did say SOB after I saw what that blue snake was. None of this is fun specially if you ever have the pleasure of a cystoscope. That will make you slap your momma! They have rubber gloves? They have channel locks?

I hope I'm not being premature but no pain today so the little booger may have been flushed down the crapper.
No pain pills since the 500mg Naproxen Sodium I took Sunday morning.
I'm going to take one more Flomax before bed - just in case.

OH JOY! Kidney Stones. Bugger.I realize my British is lacking. The stone is bad enough. But the buggering is just over the top (and I don't see how it helps pass a stone). May it flush through the goal posts of life (soon).

Here we go again. A few left twinges lead me to believe I'm getting ready for round 3. I have some meds left over from the last one. I've been taking magnesium as recommended by a couple of forum members . Time to start drinking from a fire hose.

I know it doesn't work for everybody, but I've been on Allopurinol for over 10 yrs. and have had no stones. Prior to that it was at least one per year on average. That got old real quick. I think it's the uric acid in my system they said was the cause, same thing that causes gout. The allopurinol is for gout but works just as well for stones. Might be worth a chat with your local penis machinist.

BTDT , I hope it move out quickly for you . When my stone were checked they gave me about 3 pages of what not eat . I think it left cardboard and water as the only viable food source and the water source would be questionable. Oh and the stent....once they inserted the tool in the tool....It felt like they were pulling on the back of my eyeballs.

I wasn't having a problem but doctors said I had to have the stones out. You could see them nestled down in the fat and not bothering anything. But, like an idiot I agreed. Back then they blasted which resulted in 4 days of shear hell. They of course wanted to do the other side, I got up and walked out on them. That was about 15 yrs ago. I drink quite a bit of lemonade now, anything acidic as it is supposed to dissolve them over time. Now the doctors say they don't go blasting anymore, they just go in and snatch them. But the other side still has that big ass stone sitting there not bothering a thing. But, I can understand, they are the most painful thing I've been thru.

Here's hoping they're only twinges Paul.
I've had no repeats for 15 years or more. But I have had a few twinges, which instantly give me the worries. The problem is, at my age, low back/side twinges aren't exactly a rare thing.

Got no immediate REMEDY, but I do know how to prevent their recurrence!
Health food store. Ask for Sonne's #7 ( bentonite...yep. Same mineral used as drilling mud! ) Has no taste; a slight chalky residue is all.
Must shake bottle well, daily.
Take one tablespoon morning and night for one month with a large glass of water, then one tablespoon daily with a large glass of water.
It has simply worked to prevent more stones from developing, for both my brothers plus seven or eight friends, for the last several years.
And their ongoing gratitude goes to the Nursing Instructor ( an old battleaxe Army Nurse! ) who taught me this trick during my first semester.

I took allopurinol for years. Quit 3 years ago and just drink at least 8 glasses of water a day and cut meat intake in half. In my case it was animal protein causing the stones. Have not had any in long time
