2014 Valkyrie 1800

Seminole, Florida

« on: October 19, 2009, 09:27:34 AM »

Been working on the house, we needed to get out and ride, even with these frigid winter temps. We decided to make it short and ride to Fort Desoto. Wow, we found some cool old stuff. I never really spent much time there before.
Some big guns...

It was so cold (mid 60's) that these palms were starting to turn brown on the tips. Time to change out the summer air to the winter air in the tires.

The Sunshine Skyway bridge, links Pinellas County to Manatee County and spans over the mouth of Tampa bay.
Probably not the safest place to live, Pinellas County is a Peninsula, which is located in a State which is also a Peninsula.

Went for a little hike and found these old foundation footings, the bricks didn't look as old as the sign claims ???

Then found this old tower, not sure what it is? There is a real lighthouse nearby, no interior or staircases to this? The mortor was mostly crushed sea shells.

We spotted Frongi Pongi plant, which produces the Hawaiian Lay flower, pretty cool.

Florida can be brutal here in the winter months, the wife had to bust out them long sleeve clothes to find her little sea shells on the beach.

Home just in time to catch the gulf Coast sunset, then home for a fire. We are preparing to "hunker down" It's gonna be a long winter.
