I just did the desmog, cleaned and rejetted the carbs with 38 slow jets. It started right up and ran for a while. When I poured more gas in the tank it wouldn't start. THE BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED. I JUST HEAR A BUZZING SOUND FROM UNDER THE RIGHT SIDE COVER. No engine response at all. I'm guessing the solenoid went bad. What do you jump to bypass the solenoid to see if it is bad?If you jump it and the engine starts than the solenoid is bad, correct? John

Sounds right to me. Just makes sure your in neutral before bypassing the solenoid. You wouldn't want to have to chase it down the road.

Either that or you may want to check the starter relay to make sure you don't have a corrosion problem there.

First thing I did was check the ground, clean spade connectors of the relay, and check battery connections. I'll try to bypass the relay tonight. Thanks for your help guys. John

I just installed the new starter relay and no change. The relay just buzzes and no spinning of the starter. Where do I look next?

that your battery went South at the same time. Jump it very carefully from your car or truck and make sure the donor vehicle is not running. Also the terminals on the bike are very close to the frame, so don't short the positive lead to the frame. If the relay is buzzing, sounds like not enough current to hold it closed. Did you try turning the key on and shorting across the two large wires under the fuses? That bypasses the start solenoid. If not try that and see if it will turn over. Let us know how that turns out.

I pulled the plugs and pushed it in gear. Does this solve the hydrolock? No excess fuel shooting out of any cylinder. Still buzzes w/o starting after new relay. New battery next. John

New battery and started right up. Right now it is running rich with the desmog and #38 jets. I have to adjust the pilot screws. What setting should I start at ( Howw many turns out)?

1 3/4 works for me, I found 1 1/2 was too lean.
