Ride in on friday November 6 we plan to vist Shiloh National Military Park and Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park on saturday November 7.We will be staying at the Econo Lodge in Lexington,Tennessee the phone number for reservations is 731-968-0171 you will need a room for both friday and saturday night November 6 & 7 .We'll ride mostly two lane state highways and rural backroad's whenever possible to and from both parks.Should be a great ride in a beautiful area...Bring It...LET'S RIDE Smiley

Bloody Shiloh.....

“No soldier who took part in the two day’s engagement at Shiloh ever spoiled for a fight again,” recalled one Union veteran. “We wanted a square, stand-up fight and got all we wanted of it.” Besides preserving the site of the bloody April 1862 battle in Tennessee, the park commemorates the subsequent siege, battle, and occupation of the key railroad junction at nearby Corinth, Mississippi.

Alright pal, you've got three weeks to work on the weather.  I'm thinking clear skies Thursday through Monday with temps in the mid 60's.  I'll see ya there.

There is a 58% chance of a Warm Day (temperature over 60°F / 16°C)....Not bad odds let's hope history works in our favor  cooldude

See you in a few weeks Dave  cooldude

Folk's ridin' in on the super slab I-40 will get off at exit 108 " Parker's Crossroad " ....

 Location: Henderson County

Campaign: Forrest’s Expedition into West Tennessee (1862-63)

Date(s): December 31, 1862

Principal Commanders: Brig. Gen. Jeremiah C. Sullivan [US]; Brig. Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest [CS]

Forces Engaged: Two brigades (approx. 3,000 men) [US]; expeditionary brigade [CS]

Description: As Brig. Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest’s expedition into West Tennessee neared its conclusion, Union Brig. Gen. Jeremiah C. Sullivan, with the brigades of Col. Cyrus L. Dunham and Col. John W. Fuller, attempted to cut Forrest off from withdrawing across the Tennessee River.  Dunham’s and Forrest’s march routes, on December 31, 1862, brought them into contact at Parker’s Cross Roads. Skirmishing began about 9:00 am, with Forrest taking an initial position along a wooded ridge northwest of Dunham at the intersection. Confederate artillery gained an early advantage. Dunham pulled his brigade back a half mile and redeployed, facing north.  His Federals repelled frontal feints until attacked on both flanks and rear by Forrest’s mounted and dismounted troops. During a lull, Forrest sent Dunham a demand for an unconditional surrender. Dunham refused and was preparing for Forrest’s next onset when Fuller’s Union brigade arrived from the north and surprised the Confederates with an attack on their rear; Confederate security detachments had failed to warn of Fuller’s approach. “Charge ’em both ways,” ordered Forrest. The Confederates briefly reversed front, repelled Fuller, then rushed past Dunham’s demoralized force and withdrew south to Lexington and then across the Tennessee River. Both sides claimed victory, but the Confederate claims appear to have more credence.

I'm looking forward to this ride. Called Bob the motel manager to find out how many had made reservations but he was out of the office. I will try again later today. This will be a great time.
