SIX is SERIOUS

Dundalk MD.

« on: October 20, 2009, 06:26:31 AM »

I haven't posted  much here lately, because I am finely doing something I've wanted to do for 10 years or  more. That is put together a solo tribute act to Roy Orbison in which I will attempt to dress like, sound like, and  perform his music live .I will do the vocals , play guitar , with the use of professional backing tracks. I have aquired the tracks and copyright to perform  up to 32 of his songs live .over the next 3 months I will be investing in the needed equipment as well as putting together a web site and practice, practice.  Anyone who knows Roys music knows I have my work cut out for me...just thought the musicley inclined might be interested..

I never thought much about Roy until the Traveling Wilburys... and there's a Roy Orbison concert where Roy's playing his songs with
Springsteen, Elvis Costello and a bunch of others that Public TeeVee shows during fundraising week... now that he is
gone I miss him, kind of like Skynyrd...

Just for a little variety, you could start off with a re-mix of Run DMC's "Pretty Woman" that resulted in the court case, which DMC won and thereby didn't pay Roy. Feel free to rip it off and re-mix it and not pay them. That'll show them!

I don't think I have ever seen a Roy tribute. Perhaps at those Legends type shows, but never as a stand alone act. Nice. As many Beetles and Kiss tributes as are out there it will be nice to have a Roy show!

Cool. Hope you post vid clips for those of us that can't make the show.

Best of luck .... especially on the octave changes in the vocals. I still remember signing Pretty Woman with my friends.  When you can, post a you tube of your work.

FANTASTIC!  It takes alot of work, (practice, practice, practice) . People don't realize how much you have to devote. I had a small taste on stage and realized I had alot more practicing I need to do. I am currently back to square one truely learning the BLUES SCALES without sheets.

Lets us know when  you get your site  going with places and dates, I'm sure some of us can trek out and support the cause. Cool

I've been digging Roy for more years than I will admit. The man could sing. Best of luck with your endeavor.  cooldude

Meet a guy at Hobbs NM that did a tribute show of Roy, they even bought a home in Wink. He was pretty good. He and his wife travel from Texas to California doing thier show. He is not getting rich, but paying the bills, having fun, and meeting lots of nice people.

Have fun and enjoy!

I like Run DMC's 'Walk this way' they did with Arosmith. Not a big 'Smith fan but liked them together. I saw a Kiss trib band and left after a little bit. Not a big Kiss fan.

Good luck with the Roy O work. I like his stuff
