I recently purchased a Yamaha Royal Star Venture XVZ1300 CB RADIO from Pinwall and am going to install it in my Interstate. The electrical plugs are an exact match to the Interstate radio plugs and the CB controls and display all work so there's no problem there. The CB comes with a plastic outer case and the actual radio with its metal case is inside. I've removed the plastic case because of its size. The remaining metal case is still too fat to fit into the usual slot in the plastic tray behind the battery.

So far I'm thinking about two different mounting methods: I could cut out the web in the plastic tray to see if the CB would lay in at an angle -or- the CB might velcro-mount on the inside-front of a hard bag.

I'd like to keep the CB under the seat similar to where the OEM goes so this option appeals to me the most. If I put the CB in the hard bad I'll have to put a hole in the side of the hard bag but the multi-pin cable will easily reach the radio connector. Either solution requires me to lengthen the 3 pin power connector but that's no big deal.

Suggestions? Anyone else adapted the Venture/Clarion CB to an IS?

The Clarion CB on my Tourer was under the seat... Stanley Steamer's CB for his Interstate is under the trunk - I thought that was the "normal"
place for Interstate CBs...

I am almost positive that the normal place for the CB on an Interstate is under the trunk.  For that, you may want to put the plastic case back on so it is waterproof.

I have 2 Interstates and both had CB under the trunk before I removed them.

Well, I had no idea. I guess I don't know how or where or how the oem CB was mounted. The Yamaha plastic case looks waterproof and has four rubber-grommeted mounting holes so it should mount under the trunk just fine as long as the multi-pin cable is long enough. I'll check it out this evening.

Bon, if you need the metal bracket that goes under the trunk I believe I have one that you are more than welcome to.

Thanks Carl, I appreciate the offer. The Yamaha plastic outer box is too large to fit under the trunk. The dimensions of the Clarion CB itself is 4-1/8" x 6" x 7/8". I don't know the dimensions of the Honda CB. Do you think this will fit the Honda metal bracket? If not, I think I'll go back to thinking about mounting it under the seat or in a hard bag.

I'll measure when I get home.

Watch this spot.

The Interstate CB appears to be 6" X 4" X 1.375

The slot on the frame is a snug fit at 4.125 X 1.375.  Length doesn't matter as it's open on both ends.

I think it'll fit.

I've just picked up the same CB and it looks like it will fit behind the battery with some persuasion. As far as plug and play goes, mine has a female 13 pin plug on both ends (CB and bike). Was yours the same? Can an adapter be bought to connect them or am I not looking in the right place for the plug on the bike? There doesn't appear to be any other plugs that size under the side covers, so any ideas?

The mating plug comes out of your radio electronic black box and is about 6" long. There are two plugs actually. One has male pins the other female. You will use the male pin plug. I don't know what the other plug does but you don't need it for your CB. The 3-pin plug fits a connector that is under the right side cover and is buried inside one of those weather hoods. Mine is on my right, towards the front of the bike. Those wires will have to be lengthened regardless of where you place the CB unit.

Thanks for that BonS. I'll have another look for the din plug then. I've found the three pin power and yes it needs to be lengthened.

I wonder what the other 13 pin plug is for then. There's also a jack plug beside it, maybe for something like a MP3? It doesn't show me in the manual.

The jack is for Aux Input (for MP3 player etc).

I think (but have no way to confirm it), the other 13 pin jack was for a planned Remote CD player.

I recently installed the Yamaha Royal Start CB radio. I made two vertical cuts in the webbing CB fits fine on a slight angle. Battery rubber strap holds it in place. Sometime over the winter I'll remove tray and finish cutting out the rest of the web.

I think you're right. All the searching that I did to find a possible male connector for that plug indicated that Kenwood and Clarion made CD changers with that hookup configuration.

I took the plunge and got a Yamaha CB coming too. Paid $128 on ebay for it. The unfortunate thing is it's registered mail, at the post office since Monday and I don't have time to go get it until Saturday.... tickedoff

Great Price!

What is everyone going to do for a proper CB antenna? It seems that the OEM mount was made of unobtanium.

With the old CB I was running I had made a bracket from Aluminium and fixed it to inside the bag rails. The aerial came up to just below the top of the trunk which meant the bike cover could go on without having to remove it (it unscrews easily anyway but I'm lazy), but it looks like the connector is different so I'm hoping to source something similar. There are a few variations for the wings that would work by the looks of it, infact I think there was another thread here that gave the name of the supplier (Wingstuff comes to mind). Don't quote me but I seem to remember the 1200 Wing had a mount that would work if you want to locate it on the LHS of the trunk.

I have one and the antenna.  The antenna was bent and then mostly straightened.  It still needs work.  It'll be in the pickup bed.  take it you want it.  Leave it if you don't.

Installed mine this evening, lengthened the three power wires, changed out my CB antenna plug, and plugged in the plugs. I'll adjust the SWR in the morning but the reception was fine this evening. Really appreciate you gents posting this thread!

Now I can get rid of the handlebar mount unit I've been using....

Antennas and mounts for the left side are close to what the GL1200 Goldwings use. There are new knockoff sets available on line, I did a google search and found several. The GL1200 antenna looks like a direct plug in.

In my case I'm using a Firestick antenna with a mount that I had a country welder make for me and painted glossy black. It works great and cost $40 including the antenna which I picked up at a truck stop. Had to buy a new plug for the end of the coax that plugged into the CB but that cost $3.50 and took five minutes to install from Radio Shack.

I cut out part of the plastic box under the seat just aft of the battery for the CB itself using a Dremel with cutting blades then sanding disks to clean the looks up a bit. Next I ran the wires into the right hand side cover area.

If you get the CB cover from the Yamaha it looks like you could secure it under the trunk with barlock security ties or use strapping to put it on but the plugs don't look long enough to run to each other. I wanted to keep things simple, cheap, and easy to do. If I have time this morning, I'll post some pictures for you. Looks like a nice day to ride up to LBL...... (Land Between the Lakes)

Thanks Don....  cooldude  I will have to keep my eye out for one of those units.  Direct plug in (except you extended the power lines it appears).   I have been planning on the Supervalk Mod, so I will have to look for some different antennas I think.  Did someone here have a dual purpose antenna that worked well?
