I say this with a heavy heart, my son totalled my Valkyrie last night. He has bad road rash but will recover in a couple of weeks. That, of course, is the most important thing.

This situation brings up so many questions.

How will the insurance company value the bike with the extras I installed and will I be able to replace the bike with all the extras I installed?
Should I replace it or wait for the New Goldwing? Anybody know about this?????
Can I find another '14 or '15 and will they install the added items I had on the old one?

This saddens me more than I thought it would........

Glad to hear that your son is ok.  That is the main thing.  Bikes can be replaced.

Unless you got extra insurance to cover your add-ons then they will probably not cover them.  Take them off, if you can, and reinstall them on your new Valk, or sell them if you don't get another Valk.  Did you get replacement insurance?  If not then you may end up getting pouched on what they give you for your bike.  Insurance companies are real As&^%$# when it comes time for them to pay up, usually.

I saw some pictures at one time on the new Goldwing.  The front fairing was reduced quite a bit.  I wasn't impressed.

Good luck.

No, I never notified the company about the add ons, so I'm probably screwed.

Where did you see the pictures and when does the new GW come out?

I had a HAD Sportster that i layed down. They evaluated for all the stuff that was installed. That was through progressive. I've Geico now because the rates for the Valk were considerably higher than my old HD. I'm sure the past crash service wouldn't be as good as progressives was.

I saw pictures of it a couple of months ago.  I am not totally sure that they were actual pictures of the 2018 Wing, but it sure looked like it.  The bike was dual white.  If you do a search for it the bike I saw will come up.

Undecided To late now. Accessories are adds on your policy. I'd wait for the 2018 lineup. Bikes seem to keep getting better and for sure, get ABS at the least

Hey Bill, sorry about the bike, but very glad your son is ok minus the rash.  I lost my 30 year old best friend almost a year ago to a motorcycle accident.  Whatever bike questions come your way, answer them as rationally as you can, and eventually, you might even be a little excited you have a new ride coming your way, even though I wish you didn't have to deal with this to get one.  In any case, like I said, glad your son is alright.

Thanks for the responses.

I have Progressive and talked to them yesterday. My "extras" are all covered and my deductable is $250.00.

All good on the insurance.

As far as a new bike, I think not being in a hurry is the best advice because bikes are getting better. I would like to wait for the new Goldwing and maybe look around for a '14/'15 Valkyrie.

I loved my bike and had it set up as a brand new bike to my liking.

I have '98 Valkyrie and a '12 Kawasaki Concours 14 that I can lean on and take my time. Actually, the Kawi is a great bike. I just had the ECU Flashed.

Any ideas on finding a new Valkyrie????? I live near Salt Lake City. I'm guessing there are still new ones available.

Bill,

I'm glad your son made it through the "event" without significant injuries.  Very good to read!

Well I tell ya what I'm seriously considering off loading mine, but I paid the dealer way too much, and so I have to get it down to what I've seen others picking used ones up for. As of right now, I think I'm still too high. So timeline I'm thinking for mine is another year and a half.... if you're looking to wait. I'm currently in Florida, but I'll be going to near Colorado City around the time I'm looking to sell her. Not too far from SLC, depending on your POV.

Recently received a letter from my auto insurance company that they would not cover anyone driving our three cars except my wife and I who are listed on the policy.  That means our two adult kids could not even drive our cars and be covered unless we add them to the policy.  We have Allstate for everything.

Mentioned it to my daughter that she should check with her insurance company since she lives with her boyfriend and he often drive her car.  She found he also would not be covered and she had to add him.

I would imagine this is something new and it may be similar with motorcycles.

Very sorry to hear about the accident. Glad your son will be ok.

I've got Progressive insurance, and I totaled my CTX1300 last year. They gave me what they called current market value based on NADA, which surprisingly was a few thousand more than what we've seen that bike selling for (similar to the Valkyrie, not many sold so it's been heavily discounted). They also took a list of everything that was installed on the bike, as well as riding gear that was damaged, and they reimbursed me for the current prices of everything.

So a lot of it will depend on your insurance company and your coverage; but companies like Progressive and Markel that are big into motorcycle policies usually cover all that extra stuff specific to motorcycles. Flo may be a pain in the ass, but Progressive has treated me very well over the years.

Good luck!

I called the local Honda Dealer in Salt Lake City to inquire about the release of the 2018 Goldwing and see if they have a '14/15 Valkyrie.

He wanted over $2,000.00 more than I paid for my Valkyrie 3 years ago. His
'14 is still in the box like the one I purchased.

I told him that wouldn't work so he said he would check with his manager.......What BS!

He will know in August what is going on with the new release of the new Goldwing.

My son is doing pretty well. I keep changing the dressing on his wounds.

Thank you so much for all the good thoughts about my son.

Two weeks ago a good friend had a deer jump up in his lap at 60mph. He is not dead but badly broken up.

Bill,

My dealer here in West Texas is a pretty good egg.  He recently posted my Valkyrie on his social media page, implying he could get others:  https://www.facebook.com/maxscycle/photos/a.110513002317458.6266.108771602491598/1426963364005742/?type=3

If you are truly interested in a Valkyrie you might give them a call (contact info is on their social media page - talk to either John or Al - the owners).  Tell them Bill Havins referred you (it actually means something to them).

We will be riding from here into NW New Mexico either late September or early October - it's a nice way to go home.

Good luck!

If you are willing to travel, cycletrader might be an option. https://www.cycletrader.com/search-results?type=motorcycle%7C356953&make=honda%7C2316874&radius=any&sort=featured%3Aasc&model=valkyrie%7C764857150&trim=gl1800%7C25125&

Glad your son is ok it could have been so much worse and if I lost my Valk I wouldn't care if the new wing is coming out I would still buy the Valk. If you look the prices are way low but with the Concours it takes away some of the, I got to have it itch.

Just for insurance info on who the insurance company will let drive your car its been that way for awhile. If you have a youthful driver they want to know to charge you accordingly. The insurance companies do their own research and find out how many in a household and who drives. If you do not declare them as drivers and they get in an accident sometimes the insurance company will make you pay for the accident.

I checked my policy and I do have $3000 extra for accessories. However if someone else rides it, their insurance kicks in, not mine and if they don't have a motorcycle endorsement on their license, your pretty much screwed. Lesson, Don't let anyone ride your bike

there's a post on this board that Dallas Honda has a 2014 leftover for $8999.00. It would be worth the drive/ride or even shipping it at that price. I don't know the color.
