Spent a couple of hours searching the archives. Did not find the answer I was looking for.
My rear section of my rear fender has a crack. Thought I had read about a fix!  Sure don't have the bucks to buy a NEW replacement. Has anyone done a repair that has worked?  I have a couple of ideas, but would like to hear a few others solutions. I was thinking about getting some patches cut from some thicker sheet metal and welding it to the fender. Or getting some patches and epoxy them down. Maybe something with design cut?

Any excuse to buy a welder and plasma cutter!!!!  Yes the equipment is more than the fender, but I can use them for future projects. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!  angel

The fender is made from very thin metal and is difficult to weld.  You might be better to buy a used one off ebay and get it painted to match.  I believe there are some for sale there now.

Uh Ahem..... I have a rear fender in the classifieds.  It's black with the signal light assy.  If you don't need the signal light assy... let me know.    Just saying.....   Wink

I am not too familiar with body work, but I heard, the other day, that you can now replace auto body panels using a special glue instead of welding. I've been told that after letting it set for a couple of minutes, there is no way you can take the panel off again. Might be something that you could use to stick a patch to the fender...just an idea.

Oh... PAValker, don't mean to ruin your sale... a replacement sure would be better...  Wink

If  you are referring to the rear 1/2 of the rear fender, it can be welded carefully but re-painting will be needed.
I'm a lousey welder but MIG welded my rear 1/2 which has broken clean off on one side (lost the top bolt on the way to Laconia)
Bought a spare fender just in case but 2 years later, it's still hangin' in my garage. angel

Mine cracked.  I welded it re-enforced it with tiger hair (a body putty that contains loose fiberglass strands), rattle canned it.  It's cracked again.  I believe the technical term for the rear fender is POS.

My rear fender has rusted completely through behind the license plate. Last year, I posted a "wanted" ad on the VRCC Classifieds. One of our member's made  me a good deal on a matching (red/white) fender. You might try there.

Thanks guys for the options. Guess I will wait until probably March before I make a decision. The body glue is a real option. Lot of car parts are glued on instead of spot welded now days.

If you really want a good excuse for a welder...

I've seen VTX fenders on a Valk, and they look good.  Needs a little metal work.... I'm just sayin...  cooldude
