Trying to remove the reflectors from the chrome radiator covers with a putty knife per Shoptalk "use a putty knife to remove the reflectors from the covers. Looks like they want to crack off and not pop off.
What's the way to get em off in one piece?

The bike was plenty hot, are there tabs holding them in, if so where are they located?

Try prying and using 90% rubbing alcohol in between reflector and grill.

there are no tabs. just keep pushing a screwdriver (small flat type) under until a good 3/4" at least is under the reflector. Then apply gentle but steady pressure, it will feel like its not working at first then as you keep the pressure on, it will give way and then it pops right off

You need to apply heat at the double-sided tape. If heat from running the engine was enough, the reflectors wouldn't stay on. Apply heat with a hair dryer, pry gently enough to not crack the reflector, and continue applying heat while also working the edges of the tape with the putty knife. |

We have to take badges off cars/trucks before lettering or wrapping. Most are held on with d/s tape--very aggressive. Hair dryer not hot enough--it takes a heat gun. Harbor Freight sells them for around $10. I buy six at a time and when they crap out, throw em away.

I would try other methods before a heat gun. The radiator side cover is chrome on plastic, and we already have trouble with the chrome on other plastic pieces bubbling. Although I don't think we have a definitive answer for the cause of chrome bubbling, heat may be a factor. I'd use fishing line or similar to cut through the foam part of the double-sided tape before applying high heat. |

No heat or screwdrivers necessary, fishing line or if you don't fish floss will work but you'll choke the heck out of your fingers before you get done. I've used both and once out of desperation I used safety wire but be careful it can scratch. Keep the fishing line, floss or wire close to the reflector and away from the chrome when working it, you want to cut the foam between the two layers of tape.

Agree on the fishing line. I just removed & replaced my red reflectors with LEDs on my saddlebags using a wire leader, coupled with my wife's blow dryer, a little elbow grease and using a back/forth sawing motion they came right off. Careful though, my wire leader cut right through the black reflector housing so keep the fishing line/leader close to the surface of the radiator guard. easy peasy. . .  |

Just spray a bit of WD40 with the fishing line or some strong string, it should cut right through.
