Std & Tourer have the same tank.

I/State has a larger one with the gas gauge provision.

You CAN put an Interstate tank on a standard or tourer however.

Put one on mine.  IS tank, repainted to match, and a Motosen fuel gauge.  Love it.

Just a note of caution regarding this conversion. Some seats, such as the Ultimate, designed for the Standard/Tourer will not fit if the Interstate tank is substituted.

Standard/Tourer - 4.3 available + 1 gl. reserve = 5.3
Interstate - 5.3 available + 1 gl reserve = 6.3
Change to aftermarket petcock = less reserve.

Sorry.  The IS tank is 6.89 gallons, not 6.3, per the IS owners manual.
The quote from the literature on valkyrienorway.com is:

"Increased-capacity fuel tank holds 6.9 gallons for extended touring."

When I switch my IS tank to reserve, it will take 6 gallons to fill.  I have put 6.7 gallons in it, and it was still running fine.

Interstate tank with an Ultimate Kingboy on my standard..........no problems at all with the seat fitting.

Interesting. Several possibilities. (1) The "King boy" is shorter than the earlier versions of Ultimate such as the "Big Boy." Though I can't find the exact fore to aft dimensions on the Ultimate website, the fact that the King Boy seats the rider "farther back" suggests that might be the case. (2) You have an "Interstate" rather than a "Standard/Tourer" version of the seat on your bike. (3) Unlikely, but perhaps Ultimate has changed the dimensions of the "Big Boy" and "Low Rider" since I purchased mine some years ago.

I do know that several years ago when I considered purchasing an Interstate tank for my Standard, Ultimate advised me that the Big Boy seat I had would not fit (Too long.)  And they were obviously correct. My Ultimate seat fits very tightly against my Standard tank. With the slightly longer Interstate tank, it would not fit.

I do note that Ultimate still has separate pages for their "Standard/Tourer" and "Interstate" seats. So, perhaps the best advice is to check with Ultimate to see if there are still issues and what they are.

P.S. Sent an email to Des at Ultimate Seats regarding this issue. If he gets back to me, I'll post the response.

Please elaborate on "gas gauge provision".  I have a Tourer and would love to have a gauge.  Is there any way to add one without changing tanks?  Also, would the I?S tank be a direct bolt up?  Perhaps I should start looking for a Black I/S tank...

thanks

It fit on mine, but did push the nose of the seat up a bit.

I would recommend looking for an I/S tank, but bring money.  They're expensive these days.
The gauge requires a mounting hole on the bottom of the tank.  I'm not sure how folks calibrate theirs.
I suppose you could cut a mounting hole in the bottom of a standard tank and hook it up that way, but by then, I'd rather spend the money and get the extra capacity also.

As for bolt-up, yes, the IS tank should bolt up directly on a stock machine.  If you have the V-Stacks, they'll interfere.  The seat is a known problem, but I believe that the stock seat will fit, but the tank will push the nose of the seat up some.

Will a Mustang seat work with an Interstate tank on a standard/tourer?

I believe you. In this case, the issue was the Ultimate seat.

+/- 2.35 qts.  Educated guess.  My bad.  Ymmv,
(which could mean 20 miles further down the road).
(No, I wouldn't want to thumb-it 20 miles).   Roll Eyes
