A little bit early, but some folks are already asking if we are going to have it.

The answer is YES! But, I have very few details as yet.

The dates will be February 19, 20 & 21.

Ride in if you can on the 19th; Group ride on the 20th culminating with the Wild Game Dinner at the Dripping Springs High School; Church services with me and my son and family at the Dripping Springs United Methodist Church on the 21st and heading back home.

This is a good cause put on by the men in the Dripping Springs UMC to raise funds for the less fortunate in the Hayes County area.  This fund raiser generated over $68,000 last year.

This year will be the 20th year they have put this on.

http://www.dswildgamedinner.com/

Great food with a VERY EXCELLENT food spread put out buffet style.  Valkyrie riders always enjoy a good feed.

More to come as it gets closer.

Janet & I plan to be there, as well.

It also coincides with our regularly-scheduled DFW February monthly ride (to eat).   Wink

Looks like almost all of last years attendees are ready to go already.  Have not heard from Strider and Hard 6 yet, but I would imagine that it will depend on what side of the pond he is on at the time.  So looking forward to it.

I might suggest this place http://www.outpostmoteltx.com/

It looks nice from the road and is actually in Dripping Springs.  Have contacted them asking about group rates and if I don't hear back in a day or two, I may just stop by to have a closer look at the place.  I'll forward whatever I find out.

Concerning the Outpost.  I and wife have stayed there in the past.  VERY SMALL rooms.  Rather nice in a simple way.  I think, If I remember correctly, that it is about 50% higher than place we stayed last year.

I think it is a step backwards in comfort at a higher price.

The Outpost did get back to me...

No group rates:
$60/night for 1) Queen bed
$80/night for 2) Queen beds
+ taxes (that could easily add $10 - $15)

Needless to say - a little disappointed in the "no group rate" thing Sad

The Heart of Texas Motel will be party central again this year.

I just finished blocking rooms for our weekend.  Fifteen rooms blocked, 10 non-smoking and 5 smoking at a $55 rate.  That is $10 cheaper than last year.

Let's try to fill it up for the nights of February 19th and 20th, we will be heading back to our winter homes on Sunday the 21st.

My current plans are to arrive on Thursday so that we can make a last minute ride over a new and different ride route for Saturday.

And, don't forget the Wild Game Dinner on Saturday night.

Is Early Bird up to his namesake again?   2funny

I'll book it as soon as someone confirms the dates really have changed from 19th, 20th, and 21st as in the original post.  The Dripping Springs United Methodist Church Wild Game Dinner website says the 2010 dinner is on the 20th.

OK, the dates that I blocked rooms for were in error.  It has been corrected.  It is the weekend of the 19th and 20th.

I have changed the blocked rooms to that weekend also.  Kevin, the manager has changed our block to the proper weekend.

My apologies for any inconvenience.  If you have made reservations, I would suggest that you make sure that the Motel has changed them.

<ponder> I wonder why they call me 'Early Bird'......

We're trying to arrange it to go ourselves.  Probably won't get a hotel room, as the in-laws would like another visit anyway, and they live just up the road.  What's the schedule for the weekend?  Arrival?  Ride?  Eat, I know.

Ray-
Talk to me at our meeting in January regarding a ride route if you're planning one.

Well, it may be because I only booked a room for one night (Sat),  I'l ride up Sat morning same as last year and meet up at breakfast.   No big deal really being upstairs, but I will call again to reconfirm.  Thanks B.A.D.   Roll Eyes

Hey Strider, you will be missed!  I met you at the last Mid-Winter and it was a pleasure.  As a matter of fact, the last Mid-Winter was the first VRCC related event that I ever did and it opened the door for some lasting friendships and continued riding adventures.  My hat is off to Early Bird for putting this thing together. cooldude

Is anyone interested in going to the Shiner Beer Brewery? The tour starts at 11:00AM. We are stopping there. We missed the tour last year. If we have a group of 20 or more, they ask for a heads-up on that. I can call if we have a large group. We will need to leave the Houston area around 8:30AM-ish.
