Anyone ever painted their engine block? Toying with the idea of painting mine black. Thoughts?

I've painted a couple of engines whilst building custom Valks and have had good results using barbeque/stove paint. Seems to cover well and so far has lasted well. Having said that I've only used a dark grey and silver as I find black blocks hard to keep clean. Never painted a motor in situ always on the bench. Product I use here (UK) is made by Rustoleum not sure of availability in the US.

I have as well. Used the thin tape used in automotive custom painting on the fin edges. I believe I ordered a special hi-temp paint used for this and exhaust systems. Motor turned out great. I painted in bike. It took more time to tape off and cover the bike than it did to paint the motor.

I've painted plenty of engines, but all cast iron.Aluminum looks better left alone, especially on a bike that rarely sees the elements.

I've seen one done in a dark gray; it looked really good and someday I'll probably do the same to my standard.

I didn't paint it myself. It was painted by Hotglue before he sold me the bike. He also painted the header portion of the pipes. Flat black, high temp. It really makes the chrome jump out.

Or, you can just never clean the block, and it gets pretty dark after awhile. Same deal with the wheels. Still, more dark flat battleship grey than black. But give it time.

Not all of us are fair-weather only riders. No fun riding in a rainstorm with your CV shield fogged up,sitting under a bridge, waiting for a texting cage to run you down.I ride through November in Cleveland,And had an accident on my final ride in 2000.Riding in the elements sucks,I prefer a perfect summer day, riding with a tank top and shorts.

I think they'd call me a squid... Naw.....just death wish . Tank top and shorts ? I wore a leather jacket and jeans when I ended up doing a Pete Rose on the asphalt. Spent everyday for a month going to the Navy hospital getting gravel scrubbed out of me. Can't imagine what it would have been like had I been wearing shorts and a tank top. To each his own.
