this one was taken in Rocky Mtn Nat'l Park. There are 3 lakes or ponds in the pic. Hard to see 'em all in this resized photo.

This little guy is a pica. Up on Mt. Evans there was like a dozen people photographing one of these guys. Looked like a cross between a rat and rabbit to me. They spend the summer gathering grass and making little haystacks out of it in their den. That's what they eat in the winter.

With the cars as a reference maybe this pic gives an idea of the enormity (real word??) of the mtns. They are awesome. Colorado has 54 peaks above 14,000 ft.

Not sure if we were still in the park here or not. I just like the pic.

Wasn't plannin on going this far west I-70 but my buddy Misfit told me I did not want to miss ridin thru Glenwood Canyon. Thanks Damon  cooldude Actually going east here 'cause we came thru the evening before at dusk. I loved the road and Carolyn didn't get any good pics 'cause it was too dark so I made a pass thru in each dirction the next morning.

Don't mean to offend anyone but I did not care for Aspen. Too foo-foo for me and gas was a buck a gallon higher than anywhere else. And of course I had to have some.  Angry I did like the John Denver Sanctuary in the Rio Grande Park in downtown Aspen. They took some huge granite boulders, sliced them in half, polished the cut sides and engraved the words to some of his songs on the polished surface. Carolina Girl is a big fan of ol John Boy

This ole boy was cool also

From Aspen it was hwy 82 across Independance Pass. They were chip sealing sections of 82. We rode about a mile on a section where they had just put the gravel down and hadn't run the sweeper over it yet. 1-3 inches of pea gravel on the road. Very narrow shoulders too  Cheesy This is the ghost town of Independance.

It looks like I will be spending a couple of months in Aspen this winter. Just landed a job there last Sunday. Acually closer to Basalt. The owners of the place live in Switzerland and want us to do some up grades as they plan on moving here in another three years. 6600 square foot house on 35 acres surrounded by national forest and a horse ranch across the way. To bad we will be staying there in the winter instead of the summer. Went over Independance pass last Sunday to meet with the home owner. Next time I head that way it will be closed for the winter and I will be going through Glenwood Canyon. A cool side note is the lady of the house invited me to come to Switzerland and have a look around(after I finish her house here of course). I would love to ride over there.

I would love to go and have you come too. If I get the job I bid in Breckenridge I just might take her up on her offer. She said that they have a huge house in Switzerland and that I was welcome to come and stay with them anytime. Would really like to take my bike, and of course my buddy. cooldude

GREAT pics. I, like Joe, dream of the day I get to head out there on 2 wheels. Right now I can't get the time long enough to get there, enjoy it, and get back without being broke and jobless upon my return. Thanks for sharing the pics. It keeps the dream alive. Dave

Great pics Normdog. I too enjoyed my ride out west two years ago. Looking forward to doing it again in near future. Life to short to wait for retirement. Live life to the fullness as they say. Tell Carolina Girl Hi from Goo-Goo Magoo.

It was a dream come true. There's a lot more pics to come.

Never tire of riding in Colorado or out west period.  Hope to retire out that way some day. Would love a log cabin near the moutains.

I'm pretty sure that's Poudre Lake, at elevation 10740 ft, on the western slope side of Trail Ridge Rd. This lake is defined to be just East of the Continental Divide, with it's drainage going East as the headwaters of the Cache La Poudre River, while the stream that begins just a stone's throw west - literally - over a small rise is Beaver Creek, the headwaters of the Colorado River.  The center of the lake is at N40 25.319 W105 48.550 if you want to locate it with mapping software.
Your view here is looking due south while Trail Ridge Rd is angling away to your right approx SW.  BTW, the road has a marker, just 1.4 miles from the spot you took the pic - in the direction of your view - that indicates "2 miles high - 10560 ft".  These numbers provided by Map Source with Colo Topo Map loaded.

FYI - This pic was taken very close to N40 25.469 W105 45.211 on Trail Ridge Rd, Looking SE.  The camera is about 2110 ft SE and 60 ft below the highest point ( 12180ft ) on the highest pass on the continent, at 12120 ft.

That is awesome! I mean that you can get all that info. Even where the camera was. Wow. BTW you live in a beautiful part of the world Mark. I hope we can get back to CO again.  And again......

Yeah, I know it might seam presumptious but I know that road very well, having driven over it and stopped for pictures myself several times every summer since '87.  There is only one place either of those 2 pictures could have been taken - easy to ID using Mapsource with the CO topo map loaded.
Just thought you might like some precision in their location when you said you weren't sure if you were still in the park, on the one.  I can also locate the others though not within a few feet like these 2...

Presumptious?? Absolutely NOT. I think it's cool and I appreiciate you taking the time to get the info.
You're a lucky man to get to ride thru there several times every summer. Tho we are still partial to the Blue Ridge and Smoky mtns., we love Colorado and the Rockies. The Black Canyon of the Gunnison and the Blue Mesa Resevoir are stunningly beautiful. Carolyn got a couple pics of the Blue Mesa that are so beautiful they don't look real. If I post a pic and give it the wrong name, I welcome you to correct me. We traveled 2800 miles in CO, UT and AZ. My tired old brain just can't remember each location.  Smiley
