I'd say some of us are screwed regardless of the monitoring.
If an identity thief has all the information indicated about all those folks, we're pretty much screwed. Monitoring is about all you can do. They won't be issuing new SS numbers or driver's licenses, you can't change your birthday or a lot of the other information to prove who you are.
Yep, there's a screwing coming for a bunch of us.

Well, I guess things are finally working out. While they might have my info, it won't do the much good. My credit rating is pretty good but then, I don't borrow money. So, any expenditures will most surely be recognized. That and, the fact that I'm not worth much (financially speaking).

Do you have a credit freeze in place with all 3 companies? Can you get free credit reports in your state?

You get a PIN from each of the companies you need to keep so you can unfreeze if needed in the future. Links to do so and free. Have to register at TransUnion but not the others. https://fraud.transunion.com/fa/fraudAlert/landingPage.jsphttps://www.freeze.equifax.com/Freeze/jsp/SFF_PersonalIDInfo.jsphttps://www.experian.com/ncaconline/freezehttps://www.innovis.com/securityFreeze/index

I assume it's still frozen but will check. Be safe out there.

DO NOT. I repeat DO NOT lose those PIN numbers. It a very large PITA to unfreeze without them. Very.

Glad to see that the credit freeze has been talked about. Even if you do not use credit, new accounts can be opened in your name if they have the information to do so.
Early this morning Clark Howard stated if your name shows up Freeze you Credit. Cost 0 to 10 dollars depending upon the state. That amount may be for each agency, not sure, but a small amount compared to what could happen.

I froze my credit last year over a lost wallet. I have pins to unfreeze at will. It's really the best protection available. Also a lot less junk mail. Credit card offers that do show up don't say preapproved they have an application invitation instead.

When I saw that I figured that it is wwaaaayyyy too convenient for them to make a lot of extra money from their screw up. I decided to wait and see what unfolds from this mess. Jim
