I see the 1-5 on the standard shock. Since I have no owners manual. I don't know which way is stiffer/ softer? That's it for now thanks.

1 lowest preload, 5 highest.  Also note, spring tension increases as you go up. That's true of all preload adjustable shocks.

Don't turn from 5 to 1.
A big bang will be hear and it aint good for the shock.

Turn back from 5 to 4 to 3 to 2 to 1
