I have a pretty much stock 98 standard that I 'm going to add a little chrome to. I ordered the trans. covers yesterday. Don't want to spend more than $1000.00 bucks & going to add a couple items each month this winter.
My question is what do you think adds the most bang for the buck. Are their items I should start with so I won't have to keep taking things on and off? Where is the best place to buy from?

This is a tough one. However one of the most common additions I have seen are the Show Chrome Swing-arm Pivot covers. That seems to be a good start. You can usually find a good deal on them at eBay. http://www.phatperformanceparts.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=1-325 |

I like doodads as much as the next guy... most of what I've added replaces something that was already there, so as not to make it more tedious (as in having to take off a bunch of bling) when working on the bike... -Mike |

Well, there's chrome and functional chrome. I like Kuryakyn iso grips with the throttle boss; then the Kury wide chrome adjustable levers (for 1800 wing, which only need a tab cut off the clutch side to fit valk), then Kury Hwy pegs (I have the 4050s on one IS, but like small iso pegs with stirups mounted to the engine guard with 1 1/8" quick clamps better; with no offsets), then Kury duallys for pegs (I use cobra traditional boards for driver), with Kury brake pad cover and shifter cover (if you don't use the rattlebar kickshifter), Kury smooth covers for master cylinders and tape on covers for front brake calipers, and a Kury led volt meter, and Kury plug runners. A tel-tru oil temp stick for dipstick. Show chrome cover for oil cap, cobra cover for radiator cap (many who use the cheaper show chrome radiator cap cover later get a leak and have to bend the tabs). Show chrome pivot covers. J & P sells pairs of old harley shock top covers that look great as an oil filter cover (and the pair is cheaper than any single cover sold for that purpose by cobra, jardine, etc). I don't see the beer can cover, the idea is to stop a thrown rock from holing the filter up front, and a beer can won't do it. You can get cheap plastic chrome wire keepers for the handlebars to replace the black plastic ones. Of all the possible license plate frames (with no light function), I like the Doss the best (J & P), otherwise I'd get a plate frame with a row of leds for extra brake lite on bottom. You can still get the Honda chrome clamp halves for the control mounts on the handlebars, and the lower fork covers. The rattlebar tube toppers are nice to cover the intakes, but he's not doing much business these days. And I'd have to get a pair of air flow 18" stacks to replace the cheezy OE tips (I like straight cut over slash). I like the front (but not the back) show chrome fender skirt (OE is still available, but the show chrome is just as good quality).

The one piece of chrome that really adds to the look is the chrome engine hanger covers. That fit around the petcock and the ignition key and cover that big whole above the tranny. Get that piece.  |

I have to say the chrome I have added that enhanced my bikes looks are the gap covers and the tranny covers.

For sure there is such a thing as too much chrome.
Cobra Lite bars, or Rivco light bars are also a nice addition, and add functionality too.

I've had good luck with chrome through some eBay sellers and from ValkyrieBlingandMore.com. Though they have absolutely no functional value, the chrome that I've added that definitely generates the most conversation is the v-stacks: Next chrome that I am adding is a rear solo rack (have it sitting in the garage waiting to mount). Then I am going to look at engine hanger covers and visors for my turn signals & gauges. I actually do think there is such a thing as too much chrome...I've seen bikes that I think have been over done, I just haven't found that point yet on my Valkyrie! |

Since you Ordered Tranny Covers which to me is awesome.
Next Bang for Buck is Carb Covers ( their called) Covers Carb Linkage
Then the Spark plug Covers makes a whole diff streamlined look.
Then get the stacks
The Stacks alone will get you the Jaw dropping looks and Double Takes.
Everytime someone sees my bike they focus on the stacks I think they thinks its some kinda
custom bike.
Seriously With the Tranny Covers on the way, I would For sure get carb covers, stacks and Plug wire covers.
My Next thing will be light bar and lights or the engine hangers.Because I have all of the rest already.

I've always like the look of the chrome front fender tip and the V-stacks: Speaking of fender tips, has anyone ever seen a maidenhead fender tip? I thought I had seen one on a Valk one time, but the photo wasn't clear. |

  chrome should be properly placed and should enhance the appearance.... Dogg, You gotta quit posting these kind of pictures. A motorcycle shouldn't cause the kind of reaction I get from seeing your bike.  Seriously, that is probably the coolest, most impressive bike I have ever seen. It just looks like pure POWER!!!
