I have two friends that had car trailers stolen up here in Wisconsin within the last 60 days.

It must have something to do with the fact that they are easy to hook up and there is always a market for them. What makes it worse in Wisconsin is that we don't even need plates on trailers that are used for recreational use, therefore no titles, that makes it easy to dispose of.

I started locking mine after I heard theirs were stolen.

One of the things that makes me want to move to Texas is the law allows you to use deadly force to protect your property as well as your life.  Angry hoser

Sorry to hear about the violation, HG.

Come on down, Hoser!  We both have hot summers, but I'd bet our winters are a bit more "rideable".

I remember proudly sitting on a grand jury that no-billed a guy for using a deer rifle out the window of his house on a thief who had broken into his pickup and was in the middle of stealing the stereo out of it.  We weren't sure if the thief was the same criminal who had stolen the several that had been taken prior to this event, but we were sure that the criminal wouldn't steal any more car stereos.

What did they do, get it while you were leaving oil drippings up here in Yankee country?

How did you have it secured?

Chain still there?

Got a picture of it you could post?

A lot of items from the South seem to come over the Mason Dixon line this time of year.

One of our Parks crews had a large 10,000# tandem trailer, three ~$10,000 mowers, and blowers and assorted other landscaping tools stolen from one of the parks.....from an area that was "secure" enough to keep most honest folks out....2 different locks were cut.....they found the trailer last week  about 40 miles up the road in Hall County(where Sugarbee happens to be recuperating)....they are trying to track down where the equipment went that was ON that trailer....I HATE a thieving bast_ard!!!.....A Man works hard all his life to get some nice things and these low-life crooks think nothing of stealing it for a quick buck or fix..... Had numerous tools stolen two years ago. Bet the scum didn't get over a $100. for it for drugs. I feel for ya. Course our government leaders are stealing our wealth with fractional banking and fiat money. Maybe we will get outraged enough to do something about it.

tickedoff I had a Bobcat trailer stolen from the back of my shop a few years ago. I had welded on a rim around the lights as they were always getting broke??? My son and I were driving to a job one day and seen a bobcat trailer behind a nice 4 truck. Looked closer and it still had the rings I welded on. Called the LEO and followed the rig. Stopped him and the trailer was taken to impound. To make a long story shorter He said he bought it at a bar and had a trailer before and used the plates off of it? He walked. I did get the trailer back and I had to pay the $100 storage fee?
Still URKS me yet! No shop any more either but that's another story.

remove 1 wheel and put it somewhere away from the trailer.. including the spare... We have done this on the farm for 30 years. Started when several expensive farm machines dissappeared...
Yes, it's a tad of a pain, but we only do it if they are gonna sit more than a week. Like winter storage..
The expensive machines get stored in a big locked building. And if that doesn't work then the dogs will stop them..

Sorry to hear that Mark.    Angry    I got burglarized of some tools several years back.  I was building my workshop building, and they came in and took them.  I called the sheriff.  Before he came, I went back in the house to get one of my 12 gauge riot guns.  I had it laying on the workbench right inside the door where he would see it.  I told him when it happened, and that I had been waiting ( or was that hoping) for them to return.  I don't know what it was he wrote down in his report, but it took him 10 minutes to write it while he sat in his car at the edge of the property before he left.  Guns (plural) are still loaded with 000, and I'm still waiting.   coolsmiley     And as for booby traps, never heard of them and have no idea what one looks like    Roll Eyes

I hate petty thieves with an absolute passion... and I call these guys petty... 'cause it's just like the arseholes that ripped my den door from its hinges and stole my TV, stereo, and all my DVD's... in the long haul it won't kill me... but I FEEL SO DAMN VIOLATED!

These bastards have violated the sanctity of my home... and violated that sacrosanct rule that permits all of us to live in relative freedom... our right to possess property without fear of confiscation.

15 years later, I think I'd still beat the sorry bastids within an inch of their worthless lives if I could find them.

Get another trailer... and chalk it up to another chapter in God's plan to help you grow.

In the Tomball area where I live a friend of mine that had some 300 acres of family land set up some deer stands and auto feeders full of corn.   Someone got to going in there and backing thier truck up to the feeders and just laying them over in a bed of the truck and stealing them.   My buddy finally got the idea and put a 5 gallon bucket of lime green floresent paint with no lid just sitting in the bottom of a feeder.  Sure enough the culprit backed up to the feeder and layed it over and when the paint spilled everywhere he chunked it off onto the ground and my buddy found a whole roll of paper towels on the ground with lime green paint.......end of problem.   My buddy put the word out for everyone to be lookng for a pickup with limegreen paint all over it but the culpret never showed up.......but he did at least quit stealing the feeders.

Been thinking about it..... besides painting the trailer HOT PINK... I think I will put a keyed switch on it that takes ALL the trailer lights to a dead short, and puts power to the trailer brakes. Will blow all the truck's running light fuses and make it hard to pull with the brakes locked up.  Chain it to the tree.... chain it to the other trailer....put another hitch lock on it.... May at least slow them down.  BUT it will take 1/2 a day to hook up to use it..LOL
Also thinking about putting an ad in Craigs list ...want to buy... and see if someone will try to sell it back to me uglystupid2
