Reading another post reminded me that I might want to look at extended warranty, since I bought this bike used and its normal warranty is due to expire in the near future.....
Where is the best (least expensive) place to buy one. I seem to recall Honda Of Russelville being one of the better priced places from years ago.....
Anyone?

I got mine by way of the Honda Protection Plan. Not the cheapest I'm pretty sure but my only choice. Great coverage though.

If you weigh up the price of the warranty, the frequency of repair and the amount of any projected, covered repairs, it might not be such a good deal. With that said price it out from many dealers and see who will offer it the cheapest.

Consumables like tires, brakes, and fluids are not covered under warrany and those are the only things you're likely to need. These warranties are pretty much pure profit for the dealers, for the same reason that casino games are always in the house favor. You would be better served having your bike checked thoroughly by a reputable mechanic or someone who knows what he's doing. It's highly unlikely anything (warranty worthy) is going to fail. Ride it hard until the warranty expires. If anything is going to fail under warranty, you'll see it, or at least symptoms, now.

A better/longer warranty might be good.
But how do you trust dealers to good work, under warranty?
If you know your dealer and trust him... OK. If not, good luck.
The last time I tried to use a warranty was on a pretty new washer (Whirlpool). There is only one place for me to take it, and that was 45miles away, and they said they were so backed up, I should not bring it in for weeks, because they couldn't even get to it. I concluded that was no warranty at all.
Maybe I could have got it done right away if I hauled it to Indiana or Wyoming?
I think most warranties are essentially all blow and no show.

I agree. Ride it hard under warranty to shake any bad bugs to the top. If all is good, don't worry about it. I bought a new John Deere trator years back. I needed service on it within a couple months. Called the dealer and they said at least backed up for 3 months. I bought the bearings and fixed it myself. Same with Honda, I see guys having their bikes tied up for months. What good is that warranty? If you are handy with a wrench, buy a service manual and read it several times.

I bought a factory warranty online for my old '98 Valk when it was new. Got it from HondaDirectLine. I just looked and they're selling a 48 month Honda plan for the Wing for $599, but I've seen them run sales at a lower price. Dealers (like HDL) have a huge markup on these and can discount them deeply.
Having said that, over the years I've had extended warranties for 5 vehicles. I've used them a few times, but I've never come out ahead on any of them. The manufacturers don't sell these at a loss. They are nice for peace of mind but not a good investment financially.

Exactly my take on ALL warranties. I'll take what they give me at purchase for no cost, but I'll never spend a dime on extra. They have a business model that shows they make money on the product, AND on the warranty. One other thing goes with this plan; I do my homework on most things and try to buy a good functioning product where I will not rely on any warranty. Not the most expensive, and not the el cheapo either. I cannot remember ever being unhappy with this plan.

Concerning the Valk, I think you don't have to worry that much. You know that the main problem which may occur comes from the gearbox as we have seen with the GW. The bike cabs in Paris work with the GW, use the 5th gear as often as possible and the gearbox may fail rapidly. My Valk has 75,000 km, so far so good, no bug whatsoever. If the gearbox fails, say 4,000 $ I think it won't ever happen.

There's a guy on the fb group who's clutch went out at 16k miles. Honda dealer is telling him it's normal wear and tear and not covered under warranty. FYI.
Just another reason to avoid paying extra for warranties.

I usually didn't buy extended warrantys but when you can extend the warranty on a 3 year old bike for $133 a year, I thought it was a no-brainer. I don't think that I will use it but you never know, parts are expensive and I trust my dealer.

Same here. This is the first ever extended warranty I have ever bought in my life. I generally don't buy them as I fix most everything myself. Haven't had a bike in 25 years and wasn't really sure how much tech has changed so I figured what the hell. Plus, it might add some incentive should I decide I want to sell the bike in the future.

Part of the problem with the extended warranty is that its the dealer that has to do the work. I don't know about you but I'm not comfortable with the dealer doing my work as I dont know any dealer I trust.

Ah, I did not see that. Would that have caused the damage he was looking at in such a short time? I knew not to use oil with energy conserving attributes but never suspected it could cause such severe problems.

How do you not get a dealer loaner in this case? Id be on the Steps Of Honda Canada with a megaphone and a florescent sign if they told me my new and under warranty bike was going to be in the shop for XXX time!!!!
