I'm starting this thread because I have been doing a major refurb on my '99 standard. Strip, chroming, cleaning, painting etc. - I will post up a photo thread at some point when I relearn what to do now that PB has screwed us.... . But on this thread since the bike has been down 3ish years, I may not completely remember every wire connection putting this thing back together. - I do have the factory manual and generally can read what is what. - So for here, from time to time, I may ask to spot what is on your bike, or what color is a wire. For the first one is on the radiator power connector. The only connector that seems to fit is a Green and Brown and white stripe. The wire diagram shows the green but Bl/Bu. (Black/Blue) - Can you spot where the connector comes from and where is goes on your standard? Thanks for any help

Do yourself a favor and download/print a set of RP's schematics. They are separated by function and very easy to read. http://www.rattlebars.com/valkfaq/schematics/index.html

Agreed on RP's schematics, plus they're easier to read with these older eyes. Re. posting pics, get a no cost account with Postimage.org and load your pics there from the computer. You can make different files with different names for various parts of your restoration. Once the pics are there, it's just three clicks and they are on here.

Mellow dude, And to all that might find themselves taking on a large long term project. Stop! Think! ... And before you undo or unbolt anything, get out a good camera and take photos of everything, print them out and catalogue them. Then put them in a file folder and put the folder where it will be close at hand when you are putting things back together.
The photos you take will be better than almost all the manuals you can find......the photos will be larger and easier on tired old eyes too.
It is helpful to continue taking photos as you take things apart and have opportunities for clearer photos. I have found this procedure to be worth it’s weight in gold for reassembling things years after they were taken apart and maybe even moved from one building to another.
Best of luck to you Mellow dude. I will watch this thread and help as I can.

Hey Bigwolf - thanks for your teardown ideas. I agree take lots of photos and I have done that. Generally I dont print them out in this digital times, but a have a good reference on my hard drive. As they say, this isnt my first rodeo, so I am pretty good at wrenching and done my share of bike teardowns/rebuilds. - But yeah, there is always something that I wished I took more photos.... I probably didn't photo the wiring and vac lines as good as I should have..... I am finding Partzilla a great resource on things going together, and I can double check part numbers too. For grins, here is the present state of my Valk. - I am just about ready to assemble the rear wheel. http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,102725.0.html

Mellow Dude, Yes, it happens, I too have gotten rolling into a tear down and had some things disassembled before I realized there were a few important photos I forgot to get. Oh well, muddle thru the best I can with a little help from friends.
Wow! You are certainly turning that ride into a show bike! That is a labor of love. I cannot wait to see the final product!
