My son's Tourer developed a sound today that sounds like a exhaust issue from the right side bank near the radiator. Checked out the caps on the vacuum lines and pulled the over over the cams to make sure the belts weren't slapping. No luck. Here's a clip of the sound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=So_wMA_v6kUIf you know what it is, or think you know, I'd appreciate the advice. RainMaker

Sounds like a bent valve to me. Did you do any work with the timing belts? When you had the cover off did you double check that all the timing marks lined up?

That was my thought also, but hope we're wrong. Have you tried the exhaust nuts? How about a par valve leak? In the vid it sounds like it could be an exhaust or vacuum leak.

Sounds awfully 'sharp' to be an exhaust leak. Pulling plug wires one at a time might show if it is an exhaust leak. Seems to run to good to be a bent valve or flat cam lobe. Have the valves been adjusted lately, maybe an adjuster loosened up. Have you pulled tbe valve cover? It does sound like a metal to metal slap.

No adjustments made in the last 20k to valves, belts, etc. Will check all the plugs. Has been desmogged and all caps and hoses are good.

Suggest you start small and work your way up; evenly tighten your exhaust nuts on the right bank. . .

Used get a sound like that from the old Chevy's while adjusting the lifters / rockers. If one was outa whack it made a simular sound. Gonna have to narrow down exactly where it's coming from first before you can fix it.

That is why I made the valve lash comment. Heard it many times on Chevy engines.

Yes. Was riding and then stopped at a stop sign and heard the noise. Brought it home immediately so very little riding with the sound. Starting with the exhaust now.

pull the valve cover and check the gaps (ENGINE COLD). I set them on a warm engine once and something very similar to this was the result. it is possible a lock nut came lose on the tappet.

Back in the day again....if I blew a header gasket sometimes it would make a simular noise. Good luck.
