I rebuilt my stock petcock a few years ago. Today I put 5.0 gallons of gas in. The "selector was "ON"......not "Reserve".  I have had a feeling that the reserve hasn't been working. Is it possible to do something wrong rebuilding with a cover set? Maybe a Pingle is in my future.
Thanks

I suppose you can rebuild one wrong, but more likely it has simply failed again.

Both my OEs have been rebuilt..... and I have two more coversets in waiting.

I have two Valkyries, both have Pingel fuel valves.  So nice to have no worries about fuel starvation petcock related anyway.

Ditch the POS OEM. Buy a Pingle. 15 years, not a problem.

The same thing just happened to me.  First, it dipped into the reserve without me switching to reserve (I thought my fuel economy has magically improved because I was still on Main 20 miles past the usual switching point), then a few weeks later it started leaking.  Rebuild kits don't address either issue.  I replaced it today with this one, which seems nearly identical to stock - the vacuum feature works - at half the price:

Pinged as well. . . suggest:  1311-CHV (with vacuum control), or 1311-CH (without)

Pingle here also but I reset the odometer to keep track of that 160 mi. mark that tells me to look for fuel. Old habit from a very long time ago.

When installing a pingel or there any adjustments that need to be made to the carburators?

You might have to adjust your "always turn it off" memory, and you'll have to adjust
your reserve expectations, but not your carburetors...

I picked up one of these, too. My new to me Tourer had 60 k on it and a kinked vent tube. Out of curiosity I took the OEM apart when I had the tank off and the diaphragm was in pretty sad shape. I will rebuild the old valve and put it on the shelf for future.  I didn't have a reserve issue, so I can swap it out in a few years.

The ON-OFF-RESERVE function has nothing to do with the vacuum side of the valve, and a rebuild kit (cover set) will do nothing to fix a valve that allows fuel from the reserve part of the tank to flow when the valve is on the ON position.
