Man, what an awesome day. Met with most of the same guys I’ve been doing this with for 15 years or so today. There were 10 of us counting kids to get the camp ready for the season.

The tent is up now and the woodburner is set up in it. We cut, split, and stacked 4 heaping pickup loads of seasoned oak and hickory. Dug a new hole for the outhouse. Sighted in muzzleloaders and shotguns. Drank a little beer, checked on stands and renewed friendships. Man, it was a good day.

Much like the VRCC the camp is a diverse group of people coming together to do something we are passionate about. Probably 50% of the group are active duty military, all of whom are veterans. Four of us are riders. All of us are patriots.

Last year I was barely able to cut wood and barely able to walk because of the recently broken leg. It felt good to be pulling my own weight again this year.

Until you’re out in God’s country at night with no city lights to hide the stars and no brick and mortar walls to hide the song of the coyotes life just ain’t complete. Least not for me.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.
