HI..I was considering ordering an emgo black microglass oil filter. Looks like a good deal if its a good filter. Anyone use 1 or know anything about the microglass filters? Thanks in advance.

To be honest I've never heard of them before but the name micro glass pulls up images in head of tiny particles of glass suspended in my oil and i cringe a little.

Emgo has been around a looooong time making aftermarket parts, I don't think I have seen a study or an analysis done on their oil filters, can't be any worse than a Fram. There are lots of filters out there that I think I would use before using the emgo. Just my .02 Super Tech (Champion) or Puralator.

I think the NAPA gold (wix) filters are the best all around iirc. Fram is THE WORST, and I used to run them for a long time . I should have done some research but I stick with wix now and will until something better is proven. Isn't there some honda civic filters that we can use which are larger than ours but fit right up??????

They make what is considered one of the best filters available for the Suzuki vstrom (i.e. 10-55660), so I'm pretty confident that it should work fine for a valkyrie. But like others already mentioned, if you wanna the best, you should look for a Purolator Boss Premium: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01G6FPI1S/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1This one I posted is compatible with the honda ST1300, not sure about the Valkyrie.

IMO, hf303 from hi-flo at 8-9 bucks each is hard to beat.
Purolator always makes good filters as well.
If EMGO oil filters is anything like their aftermarket cheap EMGO mirrors for cycles, I will pass on them as well.

I use an oversized Purolator Pureone. Yes I have stash of the originals when it was still an American company. an interesting read, however I have not seen filter testing for an IC engine. http://machinerylubrication.com/Read/998/varnish-formationAnother cause of hot spots is the generation of spark discharges. The power generation industry's shift to synthetic and glass filter media has created unexpected side effects caused by the combination of tighter filter pore sizes to remove fine sediment with high filter flux rates (flow rate per unit area) to reduce capital cost. The result is static charge buildup within the oil system. These spontaneous discharges (lasting nanoseconds) can generate sparks with temperatures greater than 10,000°C (more than 18,000°F), which is hotter than the surface of the sun. This intense heat caused by static discharges literally cooks the oil, creating oil molecule fragments that deplete antioxidant additives. A video of the filter spark discharge test conducted by Dr. Sasaki can be found at www.kleentek.com/video.asp. Although filter manufacturers are conducting research to mitigate the static charge effect of synthetic and glass media, additional research has shown that places in the oil circuit where metal-on-metal contact occurs can also generate a significant static charge that leads to spark discharges.

I used EMGO Micro-Tech Filters for years. They are very good. However, after joining this forum I heard about the PureOne PL14610 Filter. You can use all 4 qts. of oil, it works very well and is less expensive.

Unless mistaken, I looked up the WIX filter and is white part# WL10000. not fond of a white oil filter on a black cycle. I looked up that purolator Pl14610 and also good to know since is 7 bucks at farm and fleet and those purolator one oil filters go 2-3 bucks off every now and again as well. Plus, is blue color to somewhat match my blue/ivory cream 98 Valkyrie. Just do not like white oil filters.

I just happened to need to go to Wally World today, so I decided to look at their filters. They have both the Mobil1 m1-108a and m1-110a (new part#) for the same price, $10. I have a black bike so a black filter is a must. I never buy oil filters from Walmart so I was unaware they sold Mobil1 filters. A new m1-110a it is for me.
I was curious as to what plp had to say about micro glass since I had not heard of them before.
Thanks to all for the replies and information.
PS. I have read that Mobil1 MC oil filters are made in China and not the same quality as the auto filters.

Both are good, but the original was better imho
