Not sure if this is the area for the question, but here goes

I just bought a standard Valkyrie with a motortrike conversion.

How hard is it going to be and how expensive is it,
to put a plain jane fairing on the trike?

suggestions or helpful comment welcome

Thanks in advance

Don't know but how about what kind of fairing?

OEM off an IS, or an after market? Woody is a name you can do a search for.

As for where to ask the ?, the Tech section is the only one we have for the GL1500. But the general ? you asked could be also asked in the General section, most likely without being bumped back to the Tech section.

I bought my '98 Tourer with a Memphis Shades Batwing on it. The fairing fit pretty well, tho the lip that the windshield mounts to tended to cut off the very top of the gauges. (1/2 inch?)

It mounted to four forktube clamps and had the quick-connect so that you could remove/replace the fairing easily. If I were to put it back on the bike now, I might consider relocating the gauges slightly.

Hope this helps.

I too have the memphis shade.  Mine fits very nicely and is quite effective.  Not nearly as refined as Woody's but much less costly.

I managed to score a used Tsukayu fairing from eBay for 200. Came with stereo and speakers in it, took a bit of screwing around to get to fit, mainly cos I'm a cheap bastard and made all my own brackets. Think with most aftermarket fairings you'll need to move your headlight forward and down, but there's people who make the necessary brackets.
I believe if you're going with a stereo fairing, you'll need to relocate your gauges onto the handlebars, but don't quote me on that! I again made my own brackets from a piece of aluminum bar stock and used a pair of kuryakyn clamps to mount to the bars. Again, there's people's who make brackets also.
Think I had $300 in to my fairing when all done, Woodys fairings are more expensive, but, much easier to work with and make fit...
but again, I'm a cheap bastard!!  cooldude 2funny

I talked to a couple of former Valkyrie owners

the consensus was the memphis batwing was the
best way to go for the money

thanks

No real need for a fairing such as a Memphis shades if all uou are looking for is a windshield, i put a fairing on my Bee not for a wind screen but so I could have tunes on that bike. Had a national chcle screen on it before the fairing (Woody's) and it blocked the wind as good. And was a lot less $$$$. Just sayin.

I removed a Memphis Shades windshield and installed a Memphis Shades fairing on my standard.  A used fairing came with 3, yes three, windshields, and cost less than a new MS windshield.

I didn't have to move my headlight or my gauges, everything fit up like it should, plus the fairing looks better and gives better wind protection.

Watch the classifieds and eBay as these fairing come up pretty often.

The Wide Open Customs fairing uses the same mounts as the Memphis Shades.
It's a full fairing, made to hold a stereo and speakers. Not just an outer shell like the Memphis Shades.

The price is somewhere between Woody's, and Memphis Shades.
It's made of ABS, not fiberglass like Woody's.
Just another option. Good luck.

if you can find a good used fairing with speakers would still be pricier but if all you after is wind protection no tunes/speakers I would just go with a windshield.

I have a lead on a near new national cycle switchblade 2-up made for a vtx1800 planning on buying for my Valkyrie this weekend for 80 bucks.  Problem is the national cycle 2 second snap on/snap off quickchange mounts are 125-140 but for 200 bucks or so plus gas money to go get it 2 hours away is worth it to me vs. over 400 new just for a new windshield and mounts.

darn mounts is the killer no idea why just the mounts have to be over 100 bucsk some pushing 200, to me that is too much for what you get.
