That's a good article, with a really good test at the end to keep you from putting everything back together only
to find out later that you did something wrong...

Here's some really good pictures:

install a snubber in the vac line and the diaphragm will not wear out for a long time.

I= Fuel inlet from top of stand pipe.
J= Reserve fuel inlet.  When the sealing ball is over this port the valve is in the ON position.
K= Ball is in this position when valve is in the RESERVE position.
L= Fuel outlet from manual side of valve. When ball is over this port valve is in OFF position.
M= Spring loaded ball keeper.  When the valve is assembled the ball can not get out of this keeper.
N= Sealing ball.
THINGS THAT CAN CAUSE THE MANUAL SIDE OF VALVE TO MALFUNCTION.
1.Dirt in tank and valve cavity. (keeps ball from sealing port).
2.Rusty ball (pitted) caused by water standing in tank for long period.
3.Bad O-ring around port. ( I have heard of this, but I have never seen one with a bad O-ring).
4.MOST COMMON  (Operator Error) You can feel and hear the ball (spring loaded) fall or
            jump into the port when you switch the valve.  If you don't then you need to ride home
            and start looking for the siphon hose.

Yes, you can drill them out, then bolt back together.
