Just wanted to throw this out there and see what responses I get from the group.
My brother has a son with CP (cerebral palsy). He is 20 years old and for his 21st birthday I wanted to take him for a ride on my 98 standard lady.  He is confined to a wheel chair in which he is strapped in because he cannot sit up.
Does anyone know of anybody who has constructed a custom rear seat for someone who is of this condition?
My brother takes him to a ski resort in Ohio in which there are volunteers that strap his kid's ass into a sled which is guided by a ski patrol with 4 other patrols around him and they clear out the path for him. If you could see the smile and the joyous screaming that kid does during those rides, it just melts ya.
On the last trip down the mountain they go darn near full out. They clear the path and go.
He truly enjoys any kind of motion and I thought I'd give him a motorcycle ride experience.
Anyone ever try this?

It would take some work. But I would think a semi cage sort of thing could be welded up and mounted to backrest. I'm not sure about keeping his legs in place though. Would a couple people be able to lift him up on the bike ? I'm with Bighead, I hope it works out.  cooldude

if I lived in the area I would lend you the interstate, maybe someone has a full dresser that you could attach belt to?

I have a 31 yr. old grandson that has been wheel chair bound his entire life. He also has trouble sitting upright, his arms are pretty much uncontrolled, his legs are useless. About 15 yrs. ago they visited us and I asked if he wanted to try and ride on the back of my Gold Wing. His dad and I lifted him up onto the rear seat, I strapped his upper body to the backrest and strapped the armrests together so he couldn't fall sideways. Then put my wife's helmet on him which was much too large but it worked. The helmets had mics and headphones so I was able to talk to him. I made a couple passes in front of his parents, his dad took some pictures which showed a grin a mile wide. He then asked if we could go out on the nearby 6-lane so we could go faster, when we did I got up to 65mph and he was squealing and laughing like crazy. Later when I bought the Valkyrie, he wanted a ride but realized I had removed the back seat. Now, every year I send him a calendar, if I make it to a rally I'll pick up a shirt for him. Most recently I got him one of the "Go Tell Your Mama" shirts which he wore backwards when he went to work. Reason....he wanted the large print in front so everyone could see it, couldn't see it when he was sitting and it was in back.  Cheesy

Clanky , I fabricate. If I can be of any help , contact me. Just as a suggestion , there is a fold down armrest that fits most bikes. It is available on line. At Inzane in Arkansas , our benefit was the special Olympics if I remember correctly. The Olympians were given rides on trikes. Post your area and there may be a trike owner with a big heart that will help fulfill a wish.

Thanks for the replies.  I hadn't thought of renting a GW for a day and take him for a ride on that.  With that nice back seat it would seem a lot easier to get him strapped in so he could enjoy the ride.
The trike and side car were also good suggestions, however, I wanted him to feel what it's like leaning into a curve. Since he's never ridden a bicycle he has never had the sensation of riding on two wheels.
I think the GW will put a big grin on his 21 year old face!

I can’t think of good spots on a wing to use as strapping points. On an interstate it might be better with the trunk rails. Where are you located ? Might be someone around willing to lend you one. I would.  cooldude
