many of you allow your Valkyrie to slumber all winter

Here in the lower Hudson Valley I choose to ride as long as the road is free of ice and snow and reasonably clear of sand and salt

So the question is WHO RIDES ON NEW YEARS DAY?

I have done so every year although there was one year that I only made it partway up the driveway. Was probably the year I took this pic.  And a few years I couldnt get off my street because of the ice at the end of it was like a sheet.

wonder what the neighbors think lol

Hey Oss,

It has been a couple of years now since my Valk has seen Stabil in the tank.......I try to keep 'er ready to roll for those sunny 40 degree days when there is no salt or sand on the road. We have a fundraiser every January 1st......"Chili Chili Run", starting at the Ogdensburg firehouse and cruising about an hour around Sussex County. The first "Chili" is for the weather....the second "Chili" is what we eat when we get back to the firehouse. Have seen a couple hundred bikes on those nice January 1st days.

Mine is put up for the year.  6" of snow last night and still snowing.   They use magnesium Chloride on the roads, and the last thing I want is to get that salt water stuff on my bike.  I have seen what it does to my car.

I try for a ride every year but I seem to be away most years visiting the family. If I'm home and I can get out the drive then it's at least around the block.

We usually ride on New Year's Day.  But then again, it's most often above 60 degrees, too.  Is that cheating?

Soon it will be winter here.  The high temperature will drop from a humid and balmy 89 to a humid and balmy 84.  Rain will increase, until in late December and most of January, some days will look like a cow pissing on a flat rock.

So... ride Jan 1... maybe might could... but it is going to probably be raining soooo heavy... maybe some golf on TV, a decent bottle of scotch... and a portable model brown girl to give me a back massage.   angel

Appreciate the offer SD.  My boss aka she who must be obeyed,  informs me that I will be in Charleston SC on New Years Eve and then the next day riding to Orlando to pick up kids at the airport.

So I am hoping I can borrow my friend Leslie's Voyager and see the area?

Who do we have there besides Frank Smoak?  Doubt he would let me ride his bike as I would slow it down  lol for next time he wants to ride it. Havent seen him since the ride at Inzane to Mt Mitchel last year

I've ridden on New Years Day and the day after and the day after..... On black ice and snow, hail, lightning, wind, oh, and a few sunny days too! For a while the only transportation I had was a motorcycle and if I needed to go, I went. Those days are over,  thankfully, but I rode to work for three days after New years two years ago. I rarely do just pleasure riding, as I and the bride are real homebody's and like to stay home on the weekends. But, if I need something from town, I take the bike in almost any kind of weather Cheesy cooldude

Tonight I put the Valkyrie to sleep for the winter.  Loaded the gas tank, added some stabil then went for a 45 minute ride to make sure the Stabil was worked through the carbs.  We've already had snow once (now melted) but it won't be long now until the roads will have too much gravel and salt on the roads.

oh well.  All ready looking forward to next year!

I never thought of a NEW YEARS RIDE. I just put stabil in my tank and hooked up to the trickle charger. The bike knew what I was doing, she's running with no pep, ( Had a hard time hunting a HD on sunday looking for apple cider doughnuts). SO........ BIG RIG and other NJ RIDERS.......NEW YEARS RIDE?? I'll ride the winter season just to keep fresh gas in her. cooldude

My last day of riding is usually Halloween.  Except for that one year when Oss was busting up ice and snow so we could her out of the shed.  You guys with fairings have a altogether different experience when it come to colder weather riding.  I also don't enjoy having to double my weight and size with clothing to keep warm.

Haven't owned the Valk over New Year's yet but I do not plan on putting it up for the winter.  I will ride on any days that the roads are good enough.  I just bought a full set of heated gear and plan on getting my money's worth out of the heated gear.
I've had the jacket liner and gloves for a few weeks and was so pleased with them that I got the pants today and socks are on order.

Yeah, Hoser, I plan on getting one of those for a spare after losing that last alternator.  Hope the Goldwing unit that I put on will hold all of that electronics. cooldude Smiley Smiley
