I want to install all new speakers on my 2000 I/S. I don't currently have the rears so I need to locate the rear wiring harness as well. I am assuming the fronts are 4.5" and the rears are 4" but any input you guys can provide on where I can locate everything would be great.

Here is an old link to a Delphi Valk forum on IS speaker upgrades (Polk) with pics.  The speaker wiring harness for rear may still be available from Honda.  Dunno.  (The photobucket links are not working very well.  Supposed to be able to click each pic for better viewing and reading.)

Thanks Jess, unfortunately the photo links won't work for me.
apparently the Polk 401 speakers are no longer available but they now have a 402 which is their replacement, I don't know if they fit front and back though.

Maybe you can get some help opening them, it is a pretty helpful how-to.

Listen I never did the upgrade, but I recall that people took out the honda mounts and trimmed them a bit, or trimmed the outside of the speakers, or used part of the OE speakers added to the new ones on the outside edge.  All about making a quarter inch (or so) speaker difference fit in the available space.

I guess the Polks (or other upgrade speaker) gives better sound, but with the wimpy Honda OE radio power (3.5 watts per channel or something like that), the difference is not that big without adding an amp.  And there have been plenty of stories on here about folks who did add an amp and for whatever reason were unhappy with the result.

One of my interstates had a big amp in the fairing added (but no speaker upgrade), but when I showed up to buy it, the PO said he had yanked it out because he did not like the result.

That's all I got.  I still listen to my IS radios with all (old) OE speakers and no upgrades.  It's better than a transistor radio (if you remember those), but not that much better.  Good FM signal makes all the difference for me, once I get out in the boonies, reception and sound is pretty lousy.   And listening to my mind is better than 1950s country music (gag).

I got the rear speaker harness from Electrical Connection.  You probably need to call them as I don't think it is listed on their web site.
I also have the original installation instructions which I received by contacting Honda.  If you want a copy, send me your email address and I will forward them to you.

I also bought the Polk DB501 speakers to upgrade and a Class D Clarion amp. I got the rear wiring harness from Electrical Connections as well. You do have to call but he'll send you out one lickity split.

Thanks guys, I did send an e-mail to Electrical Connections so hopefully I will hear back from them in the near future. Here is my e-mail address if you wouldn't mind sending those instructions it would be greatly appreciated  bruce.ewald@city.elliotlake.on.ca . Mark aren't the DB501's a 5" speaker, how did you get them to fit, or was that only for the front speakers?

So I've ordered the Polk DB501 speakers (four) and Electrical Connection is sending me the rear speaker wiring harness.  Smiley I'm considering installing an amp as well but have no idea how to wire one onto the valk even after watching all the videos on-line. Not to mention they seem a little pricey.

They fit in just fine. There's a step by step on line here someone (don't remember who) posted on exactly how to mount them using the frame of the existing OEM Speakers.  A good cut off tool is needed but it works if you follow the steps.

Yes I watched that video the other day. I thought I would play that while I was doing the install. I wish someone would post a detailed video of the amplifier install now.

All four new speakers are installed. It was pretty easy. I do think I’m going to need an amplifier though.

I don't have detailed photos of my amp install, but if you want to call me I can talk to you about what i did and what I did to correct what I did the first time. I now have a good amp install in the fairing.

Thanks, I just may do that. I'm still trying to decide which amp to go with, they're a little pricey here in Canada. I don't want to go overboard but want more punch out of the speakers.
