OK...on to page 5 then. Can you puleeeeze explain to me why I should willingly give more money to be redistributed when so much is already squandered and what incentive I have to continue working and paying my medical bills (down under 120 thousand already  tickedoff) when I could easily close my business and let you and PuffsDaddy pay it all for me? I have FOUGHT HARD and worked even harder to keep everything I worked hard for and not go bankrupt in the face of falling economy and massive physical reconstructions incurring immense medical expenses ,due to a government freeloader and some lack of sensible oversight into the persons ability to operate a motor vehicle.

THIS is what I got in return for all my tax dollars that provide free medical, food stamps, weekly assistance checks and assisted housing to the woman ATTEMPTING to operate the vehicle that MY TAX DOLLARS INSURED!

Should I just pay more ? Give me a GOOD FREAKIN REASON ! ! tickedoff tickedoff

Roadkill, that looked like one nasty spill on your bike....hopefully you are ok and on the road to recovery.  How did this happen?

Would be happy to discuss polling methodology if you like. Made a living in that field for a number of years. As for aggregation sites, I suggest you take a look at www.pollster.com rather than www.realclearpolitics.com.  Not only is the scope more comprehensive, the aggregation is based on a more accurate regression model rather than the simple averaging used by the latter site. Not only that, but the effects of including and excluding both individual pollsters and polling methods can be demonstrated with tools on the site.

P.S. What you'll find if you investigate further is that the only truly consistent outlier among polling organizations is Rasmussen. The fact that "Real Clear Politics" takes Rasmussen seriously while most other polling professionals don't is perhaps linked to the fact that RCP is a Fox News site.

P.D. this is a classic example of why you and I get "crossways" with each other.  When I make a statement, I normally try to back it up with corroborating evidence; even though we may disagree on whether or not the evidence supports my statement.  I have searched Google for the past 5 minutes and can find nothing that supports the assertion that realclearpolitics.com is owned by Fox News (assuming of course that your statement "is a Fox News site" asserts ownership).  Was this your assertion, or was this simply your opinion?  If it is an assertion, where can this be independently verified?

My error. In fact, two errors. What I meant to say was that RCP was owned by NewsCorp, the parent of Faux Noise. But that would have been incorrect, as well, based on faulty recall. RCP is actually owned by Forbes, a firm at least as conservative as NewsCorp.

However, that wasn't my central point. In fact, there's nothing wrong with RCP. I read it regularly and while its conservative bias shows up on a fairly regular basis, that doesn't undermine its poll aggregation; its use of a simple average of a limited set of polling organizations does.

The central problem is the use of Rasmussen for any serious analysis of public opinion and, again, the problem lies with the firm's methodology, not the ideological bias of its principal owner, at least not directly.

The reason that Rasmussen consistently derives results at odds with virtually every other major polling organization (especially outside the confines of an active presidential campaign) comes from three factors.

() Rasmussen, unlike any other major national pollster, sets quotas for Dems/Reps/Inds in its samples. And oddly enough, Rasmussen finds more Republicans in the electorate than any other major pollster. This amounts to "fixing" the results of a poll before running it. Currently, for example, Rasmussen weights their results to assure that 32.1% of the responses come from self-identified Republicans; that's between 8% and 12% higher than any other national pollster finds in their samples. It's hardly surprising, therefore, that Rasmussen consistently finds much lower approval for Obama than any other polling organization.

() Unlike other pollsters, Rasmussen uses a "likely voter" screen to report their results. However, they refuse to publish the content of that screen. But since such screens typically favor Republican voters, the results are a predictable bias of several percent in a conservative/GOP direction.

() Unlike most other pollsters, Rasmussen uses automated "robo-calls" for their polls and does not engage in "call backs" for numbers that are not reached the first time around. Both of these shortcuts are well known for producing conservatively biased samples in political polls.

All in all, unlike other major polling organizations, including those who do polls for Fox News and other major media organizations, Rasmussen makes it money primarily by selling its results to subscribers on its web site who like its results. Other polling organizations make their money primarily in market research where the validity of results is paramount.

Bottom line is that if you're looking for reliable results, Rasmussen isn't a good source.

I don't want to spend the time to verify what you claim regarding Rasmussen sampling techniques, so I will take you at your word.  Clearly setting quotas would not lend itself to a random sampling of the population.

As far as only polling registered or likely voters, I fell that this technique will give results that more closely represents what will occur on election day.  Historically, I feel that registered or likely voters tend to be better informed on the issues and their opinion means more.  Of course the devil is in the details of how one determines a "registered or likely" voter.

Regardless, the point is moot as far as Rasmussen goes....it is clear without any statistical analysis that their results probably don't even fall within 1 standard deviation of the mean of the rest of the pollsters; and I readily concede that point.  As such I would never "quote" Rasmussen to make my point when discussing an issue with someone.

Where we probably disagree, is in regard to the ABC and CBS polls.  I find both of these to (almost) equally flawed, however it is hard to say for sure since both ABC and CBS use the entire population as a sample without regard to "registered or likely" voters.  Which as I write this, makes me wonder about my statement with regard to Rasmussen....it would be understandable that they don't fall within 1 standard deviation if we are comparing their results which are based on "registered or likely" voters while ABC and CBS (and some others) use an unbiased population.

I just now realize after having written all of this, I have really said nothing and I am less certain now than when I started my response.  When making any assertions about Rasmussen, ABC or CBS one would have to compare their results against each other when using the same sampling techniques and the same polling questions; something that I doubt will ever happen.

The information about Rasmussen's polling methodology comes from the Rasmussen site. You can verify it there if you like.

As far as "likely voter" screens are concerned, they're useful in the context of an upcoming election, especially when it's a few weeks away, but otherwise virtually useless, especially if they're based on past voting behavior. How "likely a voter" is someone who is 18 years old, for example? That can be assessed if an election is a few weeks away from reported intention and enthusiasm, but how meaningful is it 13 months away from an upcoming election? That, of course, is why virtually no other pollster uses it outside the context of a soon to be completed election cycle.

As far as other pollsters are concerned, you should be careful in attributing methodology to a customer rather than a polling organization. ABC, CBS, NBC, the WSJ, NYTimes, WaPo, etc. don't conduct polls. They contract with professional polling organizations to conduct their (usually monthly) polls on an ongoing basis. Such pollsters are almost always organizations that mainly conduct market research for Fortune 500 corporations. As such, they have a very STRONG incentive to get their results right, not to mirror any perceived bias that their customers might have. (General Mills or Coca Cola, for example, don't pay millions of $$ to be told what they want to hear; they pay for verifiable market information.) The worst thing that can happen to a polling organization is to get a reputation for bad methodology or slanting their results to meet a customer's agenda. The miniscule revenue that most polling firms get from political polls would not come close to balancing the business they would lose if their market research clients lost faith in their results.

That is not to say that there are not some "house effects" from different pollsters. I don't recall offhand who does CBS polls, but they do have a reputation for results that are very slightly more "liberal" than most other organizations on a fairly consistent basis. ABC, on the other hand, has no consistent "house effect" as far as I know. The same is true of NBC (who partners with the WSJ) and Fox. (That hasn't always been true of Fox. A couple of years ago they ran some really bad (i.e. biased) questions in their polls, but that seems to have stopped.)

All in all, the best advice in interpreting polling results appears to be...

() Avoid Rasmussen and Zogby (especially Zogby's silly "internet" polls.) Each has a well earned reputation for bias.

() Rely on relatively sophisticated "averaging" algorithms for poll aggregations. Pollster.com has the best of such approaches that I know of.

() Avoid comparison of one polling organization versus another at a single point in time. Instead, look at trends for a single organization over time. That avoids "house effect" differences in methodology since a given organization typically uses the same methods over repeated samples.

() Ignore any and all "internet" polls. They're crap. Be somewhat suspicious of "robo-call" polls compared to live interviewers, but the jury's out on such polling techniques. Avoid polls that leave out cell phones (e.g. Rasmussen). Over the last couple of years the shift to cell phones has begun to have a significant impact on results.

The truth is Boeing's move had absolutely zero to do with politicians or unions - that was just BS to string it out and wring every drop they could out of SC in incentives.

The Boeing suits don't seem to remember why we bought Vought in SC in the first place.  It was because Vought failed miserably at producing a workable or quality product to support 787.  Boeing had to move in those damn yankee union guys to fix it.  Now they move an entire assy line there because they can get workers at near Mexican wages and benefits.  But I guarantee, we aren't gonna fix it this time. Then again, this move is just temporary until they complete the move to China where there are even cheaper wages.

The suits don't care because they will get their multi-million bonuses and be long gone with golden parachutes before the repercussions come down.  Unfortunately for them, the stock has dropped 10% since the decision became apparent. They better cash in quick.

A big move in Americas Race to the Bottom.

As I understand it, Boeing expects to be producing the Dreamliner in SC in mid-2012. Anyone willing to put a hundred bucks on that schedule?

Not me, we were a year and a half behind schedule building my new plant. And it's nowhere near that size.
The slow down in building made the inspectors worried about keeping their jobs, I heard the building inspector tell on of the trades "the secret to staying employed is not finishing the job you have until you have another one to go to." And that's exactly what they had in mind. Those "Yankee union boys" and county inspectors drug their feet so long that the Mechanical Contractor lost so much money they fired them all and shut down operations in Tampa.
You have to love it when a plan comes together. cooldude

The people that run your parties have plans for all of us and it aint gonna be pretty. If you want to learn something about how the world really works watch the new film on youtube....(Fall of the republic) Go to part 10 or 11 where it cuts right to the chase. If anyone actually does take the time to watch it please pass it on to friends. Maybe i won't have as many people to fight when the s*** hits the fan. Also (The Obama deception) Another excellent film.

I'm smart enough to know you just called me an idiot. Thanks, when people from the left that are in love with the state and are enemies of the people start agreeing with anything i say, that would be quite a shock. Check out the constitution, there's some good stuff in there. Except the 16th and 17th amendment. Those two are sponsored by the new world order. It's not a new thing.

I apologize Scanner, i didn't account for the slow part. I was talking about the comment from Scanner. Checked out the constitution yet ? Not that you'd be interested. It's just a bunch of stuff about the limits or the Fed. Gov. The true power suposedly being in the hands of the people represented by congress. A document now being used by congress for toilet paper or fire starter or in the recyle bin. Do you believe the constitution is the supreme law of the republic ? The people that don't would be the ones i speak of when i say enemy of the people. I apologize about the Lefty comment, that was rude....kinda. I don't think it matters if someone is from the left or right as long as the constitution is important to them. I know Obama is a constitutional scholar but why did he just accept the head position of the U.N. security council. That's high treason whether people know it or not. Obama is now officially a globalist. Thanks for the treason Mr. President. I wonder if he has constitution toilet paper ?

Which comment? the one about having "brethren here" ?  Comparing you to other "right of center" opinions was calling names?  And I must say in my opinion that your assumption that Scanner has never checked out the Constitution of our republic is Not giving him near enough credit as a well read man. even with his skewed opinions.....  Wink  2funny

Obama's a well read man too, hasn't stopped him from commiting treason. Didn't stop any of the last 4 presidents from commiting treason either. Our presidents are just slaves of the powers that be. Do as your told or your head explodes, as Kennedy found out when he tried to get rid of the federal reserve and their counterfeit money. It's all just fun and games to make points about what we believe to be true. I think i should start reading more poll results so i can be well informed too. I wasn't lookin to make a good start here or make friends, how m i doin so far. I just wanted to let some more people know about a couple films. I'll leave ya'll alone now. I should probably keep my opinions to myself anyways before i get arrested for having one.

No one here will arrest you for your opinions Mr. G59 .  You have enlightened us to your opinion and I, as a free man, (even if only temporarily free  Evil ) I choose not to agree 100% . The Voices in MY head tell me different is all.  Do you believe we will skip civil unrest and revolt and skip right ahead to NWO soldiers wearing powder blue helmets or otherwise marching in to take our rights ?  Should we give up on society and let it self destruct while we prepare for TEOTWAWKI or do we fight ignorance by learning as much as possible ourselves and teaching others how to be a better citizen?

I'm not sure how it will go Roadkill. When i say revolution i'm not talkin about violence. I feel we must do everything we can to avoid that. That's what i believe they want. I have hopes that enough people will wake up to what's goin on so the 2010 election can get the country goin in the right direction. My concern is that not enough people will see what the problem really is and make the same mistake we keep making over and over. The fix can't be found in putting a different party into power. We've seen that time and time again. Who was in power when NAFTA and GAT were passed during the Clinton administration. How many of our freedoms were signed away through the signing of executive orders during the Bush administration. My point is almost nobody cares about the people or the constitution in Fed. Gov. Also i don't think the public is aware of what the CFR is and how they control this country from all directions. What i think we need to happen in 2010 is alot of non career independents that aren't members of the CFR and not yet owned by lobbyists or nothing will get any better. We aren't far from world government right now but when you try to warn people of what's coming you get called things like tin foil hat wearin crazy person. Unfortunately we're under such a deep state of propaganda mind control that lies are concidered truth and truth is concidered crazy. We'll find out soon if it's gonna go the way of elections, protests and ballots or blue helmets on the streets of America. Thanks for the tinfoil comment Puffs. After reading alot of your posts it's exactly what i expected. Keep up the good work and keep reading those poles

Hey, does the Trilateral Commission know about the "CFR"?  They're gonna be really pissed because they thought they were supposed to be ruling the world......

Not to mention the IMF.....

IMF is Impossible Mission Force, Tom Cruise worked for them as the unstoppable agent of espionage as the documentary "Mission Impossible" shows.

Thanks for reminding me Scanner, don't elect any members of the trilateral commision either. They're all controlled by the U.N. as i'm sure you know. Excuse me while i make a new tinfoil hat. Of course you already know who's at the top of the pyramid. Rothschilds at the tip top who control all global organizations, councils, troops, banks, drug companies, oil companies and will also be the recipients of the world carbon tax. I'm sure it's all just a consliracy theory. The government will keep us safe.

Someone should google search "Who controls our national parks" also "The Georgia guidestones" Does it bother anyone else that the U.N. is in control of 2/3 of our national treasures ? The media missed that one too. Not news worthy i'm sure. Just like the 1.5 to 2 million person protest on 9-12 of this year. If the media didn't report it it must not exist.
