Many years ago I had set a goal to visit each of the major Confederate War battlefields. I am well short at this time but have visited quite a few including Gettysburg, Vicksburg, Kennesaw Mountain, Shenandoah, Fort Sumter, and several others. From time to time I see organized rides, especially by Smokin' Joe, that visit the old battlefields with Shiloh coming up.
I was wondering how many of you folks have ridden to all the major Confederate War battlefields? And I don't have a definition of "major" since after 29 years in the military I feel that anytime people die on a battlefield I consider it major.
Also, has there ever been an effort to organize rides to all the Confederate battlefields, like one this year and another the next, etc?

well whether you call em confederate battlefields, civil war battlefields or as some say the war of northern agression or the battles to save the union that is a good question The blue grey ride was a heck of a lot of fun this year I think it will be a one time and next time it will be somewhere else For myself I enjoy the Revolutionary war battle sites Ticonderoga, White Plains, Major Andre capture, trial and hanging sites and the many Washington headquarters Bill Clinton had nothing on Washington, you cant go 10 miles without seeing how old George slept here or there

Folks from all walks of life joined us on that ride and everyone I talked to seemed to enjoy themselves.

Being a yank I haven't been to alot of Civil War battlefields. Up here we have alot of Indian battlefields. I can only recall Charleston SC, G-Burg, and Look-out Mnt and there abouts of Chattanooga. I'd love to take the Valk onto Look-out Mnt and get a pic.

Come on down I can take you all the way and use nothing but backroads getting there. "THE RIVER OF DEATH" ....The bloodiest two days in American history...The Battle of Chickamauga is second only to Gettysburg in blood spilled with over 35,000 men being killed. A Chickamauga ride is being planned for sometime in 2010. http://ngeorgia.com/history/chickam.htmlhttp://www.prairieghosts.com/chick.htmlPicture below is at the Georgia Monument at Chickamauga from a ride I took early in 2009.

My sentiments as well. And still some try to make me feel as if it was my ancestor's fault.

Wouldn't have anything to do with who attacked Ft. Sumter, could it?

I've reenacted on a bunch of the battlefields in Louisiana, Tennessee, Alabama, Arkansas, Missouri, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. There were a lot of medium sized battles that are state or city parks out there too.

I was looking over the Shiloh National Battlefield site and found out that the Saturday night we will be staying there they will put out 12,000 luminaries commemorating the men who fell there during the two days of fighting. I've seen video of this before.....it's very moving.
