While working on the carbs I realized the vacuum line to the petcock was tied into the #4 carb (centre left carb when sitting on the bike). I've read that it should be connected to the #6 carb, my question is what difference does it make which carb it is connected too?

I cannot see any reason why it would matter. Number six is closer to the petcock, is all I can thing of.

Your bike is most likely desmogged. #4 is one of two cylinders that run the pair valves on a stock bike and #6 is unused. If desmogged it won't matter which one is used

Right rear is the easiest to hook up. Vacuum knows no difference. da prez

Thanks guys. The bike has been de-smoged and I was confident it didn't matter where the vacuum came from but thought I would ask anyway.

It is easier to remove the fuel tank, if the vacuum line is attached to 5 or 6. (esoteric)

Affirmative. Not the fuel tank vacuum line, the other iffin vacuum line, moreso easier when reinstalling the tank, had enough of that.

I hear you. I re-installed the tank but hadn't yet purchased the new vacuum tube so I put in on after...PITA! It would be very easy to attach it first.

Forgot to mention that I did desmog so the less pipes and clutter down there facilitates snaking the lower end of the vacuum line to the runner spout on install (skinny spring clamp temporarily removed), and I've never tried the sequence with the vacuum line on 5 (Attic Rat), being that my vacuum line is still attached in its stock position on 6. Vacuum line having 2 ends, I find it easier to detach/re-attach the lower end of the vacuum line, moreso the skinny spring clamp, way easier.

I will give it a try next time
