I had my truck windshield get broke a few weeks ago. Safelite came out and replaced it. I really need a new one anyway it was getting pretty sand blasted and chipped. After the new windshield was put in I had a heck of a time driving home. It was like there was a film over the glass. So when I got home I figured I'd clean it up no big deal. Well I have tried everything under the sun to "clean" that thing even alcohol and lacquer thinner. It just isn't right. In the morning with dew or fog you can't see anything and the wipers make it worse. I have to keep the defrost on high to bake the water off of the glass.
So I called Safelite this morning and asked "what the hell can I use to get this film off of this new windshield?" Their reply... We'll come out today and replace it.
????? no crap? They aren't even going to look or argue? Surely they know of an issue with this glass. And the guy that installed the first one told me I "am lucky to get an OEM glass" because they normally put in aftermarket.

I hope the second one is good, I always worry about damage to my vehicle when these gorillas attack my stuff.

I am not sure how your safelite guys operate, but I have had nothing but great experiences with the ones I have used (not affiliated). I have had them replace windshields after replacing it with one that was not quite right. No arguments, came out, changed it out and i have been happy ever since.

I hope you have the same luck with the guys changing your windshield...

Let us know how you make out...

At the dealership I spend 1 day a week, those are the only people our Body Shop Manager will allow to touch a repaired vehicle.

They had others like you say, were Gorillas, with big long claws.

The guy showed up and told me he could "clean" it. I said "knock yourself out" But I've tried Windex, Sparkle, Zep, alcohol and lacquer thinner.
So he sprayed and wiped and said "there, it looks good" and I said no... if you watch when you wipe the damp rag across the glass... see the streaks and patterns on the glass? That is what I'm dealing with. Make them go away and then "we're good" He said "they are all like that".
I told him to take the new windshield out of the truck clean it and show me that is does the same thing, because if it does I don't want it either. The new glass wiped smooth. He did... he's out changing the windshield now.  Grin
