Finally, Lesa is the proud owner of a .45 Auto !
She has wanted one for quite a while now after shooting mainly 9mm.  Did some homework and decided to go the route of a Springfield Armory Range Officer Elite Compact. That one comes with all the bells and whistles including a bull barrel, 4 mags, mag carrier, holster and a pretty darn nice ballistic range bag.
We took it out to the range yesterday along with a few other toys and you should have seen her grin! She did quite well with it to say the least.

Remind me to never make her angry at me.  Grin  Sounds like a nice new toy you got her.

So this one?  A 4" bushingless bull barrel, alloy frame Officer's Model (old Colt identifier)

I have essentially the same pistol from Kimber (in a first gen I, not a II) (wish I had the fiber optic and Black T finish) (exact same weight)
Great pistol.   cooldude

One round less mag size, but the regular ones snap right in and work all day (for reloads)

PS: the shorter grip frame bottom right corner bit my palm enough, I had to file it round(er) (and paint it black) (I have small hands too).

Yep....that be the one! With the heavy barrel and full length guide rod and spring you are hard pressed to tell a difference in recoil between this one and a full size 5" with a standard barrel. SA definitely did their homework on this one.
Springfield is running a promotion so we got all the other goodies with it as well. There are so many good choices in entry level performance grade 1911's out there right now it made the choice a bit difficult. We put a lot of guns in her hand (all 1911 style) including Colt, Springfield, Sig, Kimber, Remington, the high end Rock Island, Ruger, and maybe more. The trigger on the SA has a short take up, is buttery smooth with a crisp break and the action was the easiest for Lesa to operate. The sights are bright and easy to pick up as well.

YMMV, but I think the lightest/smallest 1911s do better with 185gr defensive stuff than fat 230 grainers.  I mean recoil wise, you never know what will be best accuracy wise. (They all make nice big holes at 15 feet)

I like Springfield too.  I have their lightweight operator.  As far as I know, the only full size 5" 1911 with an alloy frame, though it is actually beefed up a bit wider than stock, and railed for a light.

I'm a little hazy on this, but I believe Springfield Armory makes all their best 45 Operators, TRP, and Range Officers in the US, but all the other models are made overseas in Croatia with their many XD pistols. (not that there's anything wrong with that)

Well....for the immediate future it is 230gr ball that will run through it. I can purchase through work tfrom Ellett Bros. so I picked up a thousand. Already somewhere near 200 through it from Saturday with zero hiccups.

Well, all I shoot for practice is 230 ball.  It's WAY cheaper than all defensive JHP stuff.  I was just speaking about (defensive) 185 JHPs for actual carry (or shooting bad persons).
