Has anyone ever completely removed the I/S radio and maintained some functionality? I know its part of the fuel gauge/clock connection, but is that it? I can add a fuel gauge and never used the clock .

Why remove the radio. I don’t use it. I use my phone via bluetooth or aux for music.
I can use the space under the seat/atop the battery for other things, it’s basically in my way. Not looking to sell it off (but if there are any takers…)

I currently have the BOSS Audio MC470B Speaker / Amplifier Sound System which has four speakers. I’m not currently using the fairing or trunk speakers.
I’m about the grab the Pyle 6-Channel Audio Marine Amplifier - Compact Power 600 Watt RMS 4 OHM (PFMRA650BW)  and I still have my Old PLMRA400 sitting in the garage.

What I plan to do is run the 4 Polk DB501s currently on the bike (2 front/2 rear) and the Boss speakers (2 on handle bar/2 on engine guards) through the new Pyle amp. Channels 1-4 will power the 4 Boss speakers, while channels 5 - 6 will power the 4 polk fairing/trunk speakers.

The original thought was just the 6 speakers up front since I was selling the trunk, but no buyers, so plan B.

Any ideas on the radio removal question? I’m sure I’ll figure it out in about 3 weeks when everything comes in, but any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I removed mine while going through the alternator issues I had.

The fuel gauge still works.

No clock.

Way back in the day, Gary (Bru0r) removed the radio and dash setup on his I/S - gauges and all - and installed a Dakota Digital HLY-5000 in its place. (I sent him the bar clamps and other required hardware.)

The Dakota unit will directly interface to the I/S's electronic speedo sending unit. I did similar with Chet's (Rattlebars) old VTX1800C.

No idea what became of Gary's bike, as he'd sold it and purchased a KTM 950 Adventure several years prior to his death.

I imagine that one could get rather creative with an I/S sans instrument console, 3 5/8" round speedo/tach and several 2" gauges (fuel level, charging voltage, coolant temp) mounted in a sub-frame underneath the stock plastic dash.
