So, bought this Valk late last year, put around 150 miles on it.  I was told it was all in working order. It was not, as the carbs needed cleaned and this...my wife and I rode around our block (four miles since we're in rural Indiana) and the transmission slipped down a gear when I gave the old lady some gas (the bike). twice.  Just curious to hear from you experienced Valk owners as to what I should anticipate replacing/looking for in particular.  Around 24k miles...if the odometer is correct.  it's worked decent while I've ridden it.

It's possible you're not pushing it all the way into position.  These transmissions don't like a light shift.

Welcome!
What have you got for the shifter? Stock, heel/toe, other?
When I got mine, the heel/toe shifter was so bad, I thought the tranny was messed up.
Went back to stock and it was better, then went to the shifter from a CBX 1100 (I think...) and that was the sweet spot for me.
I’m sure some Others will chime in with more ideas.

+1 on both previous replies.

No need to stomp it but don't tease it, make a firm shift.

I did have a floor board, toe heel shifter combo from Markland (I believe)  and that did pose a little issue once in awhile. I then fitted a Rattlebar shifter to those boards and found it to be much better.

Ride it often, or you may risk carburetor issues once again.

Thank you for the welcome and the suggestions. Not sure why I wouldn't have the shifting issue until my wife rode with me tho. Didn't do that same thing in prior miles on my own. I'll log some miles but may change the final drive and lube the rear once the air box and tank are back on. Thnx again for the input! Stock shifter I believe.

Change the oil to a good quality synthetic (no moly in oil). That might help the shifting. OK oil threaders; check in now.

Maybe you were shifting a little more gingerly with your wife with you.

I would venture a guess that you are wearing boots when riding with the wife and you are resting your toe on the shift lever a bit heavy....causing the unwanted downshift.....

I'll begin reading on the tran oil topic, sounds promising, ha
I suppose I could have been a bit ginger with my gal with me.  If I can talk her into another ride, I'll pay attention to both gals and not just the rider.

At first I thought this was a Bruce/Kaitlyn Jenner thread.

I should have reported that I was cruising along in 5th, and gave it some throttle when this occurred both occasions. Don't recall the RPMs and MPH stats as it's been months ago.
