I have been on Valkyries for about six years or so and always had highway pegs and found my feet without thought, finding their way to them the majority of the time. I have noticed the past about four months I rarely go to the highway pegs anymore.  I can’t figure out why.  Thoughts?  Where are you most of the time?

 I hardly ever use the highway pegs. I don't like being to far from the controls. 95% of the time on the OEM pegs. I mounted a set of pegs behind the stock ones that I use when I want a change of butt position. Seems  to fit me

I mostly stay off the hwy pegs in traffic or any really challenging riding.  And this is so, even though 75% of braking is in the front/hand brake, and you really don't need to shift instantly to avoid accidents or hazards.  It's just more of a mentality of sitting up to attention with both feet and hands on the controls with all the crazoids on their cell phones in local traffic (and everywhere really).  

And I use my hwy pegs to relieve butt/back pressure points that only kick in after riding for longer periods (and in heat to let the air up my baggy jeans legs), and so most shorter rides I may not use them at all.  And most of my winter riding is short(er) in duration and distance (where cold up the pant legs is to be avoided... I still use military boot blousers for this).

And I'm only 5'9", so I am not as crowded on the center control Valk as are many taller riders.  But that is the perfect height to stand up on my boards to stretch and to blow the heat out of my clothes, and you can't stand up on your hwy pegs. 

Now take a trip and hours on end on freeway, or even back roads, and I'll be up on my hwys much more often.   I get up on the hwys, and lean back on the backrest, and ride right hand only on the bars, and this is my lazyboy riding..... where the deer may get me one of these days.

16 years on my IS, 14 of them with Cobra floorboards and Corbin seat with backrest. All local and most day rides I'm on the floor boards only. I find myself in a very good posture this way. On long rides or multi day trips, I like to switch to the highway pegs maybe 30% of the time...but always on the floorboards in the mountains, twisties, etc.

Footpegs most of the time. Highway pegs on a long straight highway. I feel like I am more ready for the unexpected this way. I am with britman on this one.

Over the years I have had several sets of forward pegs on several different bikes.
In every case I found I just did not use them very much or for very long.

So they were all removed and sold or given away.

Probably no other explanation, but one would think if it is age I would be more on the recline highway pegs - maybe riding the Drifter (I finished on Labor Day) at times with the V twin stance and floor boards is having a strange affect.  Humm - I guess I am slow in the head.   uglystupid2

When I'm stretching tween fuel stops and as the day warms up I do use the road pegs. That being said I duz notice I am NOT on them as much as I used ta wuz. My road pegs work in a couple of different ways. Heels in on the road peg pivot toes out. Heels on the sweet spot of the road peg toes more forward. Also been known to-I wear over the ankle leather boots-drape the ankle area over the leading edge of the road peg putting a little bit of reverse pressure on the knee(s) for SHORT period of time. While I KNOW I use them less they Will in FACT stay on my Phatt Ghurl.  cooldude Plus they are nice to have when needed!  coolsmiley RIDE SAFE.

I like the highway pegs if I'm on the freeway.

I never use them in traffic or in twisties.

Changing to floorboards was a big improvement over the original foot pegs.

Some part of you is simply finding your feet on the controls a better and more comfortable position.

Go with your gut.  No need to question it when you are choosing the safer of two positions.

I am pretty much the opposite after shifting into 5th and most of my riding hwy. miles,  I almost always put my feet up front on hwy. pegs I have 2 sets of them in 2 different positions I prefer.  Once I downshift or go into corners though,  sure makes the big bike turn better and easier to maneuver with feet on normal OEM positioning floorboards.  I usually roll on thru towns in 4th or 5th gear if no stop signs coming up with feet on upfront hwy. pegs as well putzing along at 30-35 mph.  I'd like to see any Vtwinkies do that in 5th gear.

I could not stand normal floorboards behind where the valkyries are like most crotch rockets have them so far back is hard to even get my leg/feet back there to shift gears.

I am 6'4'' and 250# I am almost always on the highway pegs, I have even put them on all my dual sport bikes! I have had ACL surgery and need to stretch out when ever possible. I was even looking for the pegs on a bar stool the other day! LOL

I have always used the factory position and never did floor boards or highway pegs. I tried floor boards one time and didn't like the foot action to get to the ground and going tight around curves I never quite trusted them. I always worried that in a true problem situation that I would not be able to get to the ground fast enough. Probably could have trained myself but didn't want to chance it. Although in a moderate time in the saddle the floor boards were really nice.

Highway pegs pretty much the same story and didn't like the extra hardware on the bike.

If you ride in an urban landscape all the stop and go and sometimes longer runs its not a big deal to not have pegs for a different riding position. In fact with all the jerks on the road it might be said to be a better move.
Maybe shorter runs in a more congested environment is the issue. When riding with my friends I find they keep going back and forth from the highway pegs to the regular pegs and spend probably about 1/10th the time on them.
