In spite of his limitations due to his ALS, he made numerous contributions to humanity's undertanding of the universe, and even made some TV appearances in popular TV shows. I expect that we will shortly see a Big Bang Theory episode with their spin on this . RIP Stephen.

As part of the events surrounding his birthday, Hawking gave a rare interview to New Scientist magazine and declared there was still one puzzle left for him. Asked what he thought about most during the day, Hawking replied, "Women. They are a complete mystery."

A truly amazing man that dealt with the disease that brought down Lou Gehrig in a very unique way. In the late 90s I read his book A Brief History of Time, probably way above me, but fascinating none the less. His specialty was a complete understanding of the Universe, specializing in time before time and black holes. He changed his mind several times about their nature. Unlike Einstein who spent his latter years searching for the God equation, Hawking tried to prove their is no God.
Well Steven if some folks who have had Near Death Experiences are correct and once crossing over you can have an instantaneous understanding of the Universe, than by now hopefully you will have found your answers. By chance should you encounter Demonic entities upon crossing just shout out ( in the spirit state - think out ) and mean it "Jesus Save Me" and you will be OK. RIP.

Aw c'mon Alpha, let the body cool before you kick it, huh? He was a scientist, a detective of sorts, and dedicated his life to research. His field would have made it impossible to not be interested in God and certainly he is a shining example of someone who simply dealt with whatever evidence he came across and was never unwilling to change a conclusion when he found reason to. I don't believe for a second he was evil, unwilling to look at all sides of any given topic, nor deserving of your comments. A good researcher does not allow personal beliefs to interfere with interpretation of anything found or not found. We are all richer for his time on the planet, and any judging at his loss should be handled by the appropriate authority.

I’m not sure Alpha was kicking the body. My hope for Mr. Hawking is that he had his own personal relationship with his creator and that he now resides with him. His infirmity probably enhanced the development of his mind and I hope that included examination of the possibility of the hereafter.

Sorry Spoom, sorry if I came across as degrading Mr Hawking, indeed I have great admiration for him. Perhaps I should have left it at that. In the future perhaps I will start a thread of NDEs of which I have heard and read many. Some people who have passed on and returned stated that the plan was glorious and the amount of Love is beyond description. I really think the consciousness of this Universe is beyond our ability to fully comprehend, but dang it I admire those that try as I am always trying to seek it out.

Given just 2 years of life expectancy because of ALS, he would live for another 54 years and worked every single day doing groundbreaking research and helping to advance humankind knowledge in physics.
I think most people would just give up...
A great man and a great life, if you ask me. ps: very classy, Alpha Dog.

if I live my life believing there is a God and I serve him and have faith in him and it turns out there really is a God,, then I have lost nothing and gained everything. If all of it is false,, I have lost nothing as well. I lived a great life.

You are in good company. That is simply Pascal's Wager restated, and why I would never say, "there is no God". Since I cannot begin to relate to what Hawking's intellect and research told him, I respect him playing his game above the rim, while I crawl on the floor.

Understood, I guess you just surprised me. NDE's are fascinating, and I have read on them, but they still require blind faith which I don't possess. And that's not a big deal because I also don't demand others agree with that. Getting back to Hawking, the church would have had put Galileo to death as a heretic if he hadn't backed down on claiming the Earth orbited Sun, and not the other way around. Who knows how Hawking's work will be viewed in a thousand or ten thousand years?

Headline: "Stephen Hawking knows what happened before the Big Bang," that was the story recently in the news.
While considering what Hawking believed or was thinking about in relation to God has anyone seen the headline above? Was the problem with creation and the big bang one of his thoughts. Since he may have been trying to solve, how could something be created out of nothing. This is the big bangs fatal flaw and most creationists know this. With the recent headline above and his warning about Cern and their work and the God particle it makes you wonder if he was thinking about his own mortality.
If you wonder about heaven and if you are going to make it or if there even is a heaven, then ask. God is more than able to confirm your final destination and you will know for sure.
How do so many NDE's that say the same thing require blind faith? If you have listened to many of these most have a common story.

Conspiracy Theory: Stephen Hawking Died and Was Replaced a Long Time Ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ju_HR7cOTt0http://www.thedailysheeple.com/conspiracy-theory-stephen-hawking-died-and-was-replaced-a-long-time-ago_012016I have written several papers critiquing Stephen Hawking, including a long one on his Brave New World series for the BBC. But this is my first paper really linking my science research with my faked events research. I will use simple photo analysis and facial analysis to quickly show you the current Stephen Hawking is not the same person as the original Stephen Hawking. This should not surprise you too much, especially if you know something about ALS. ALS is Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. We are told Hawking has had ALS for over 52 years, which is a record by many decades. Jason Becker is the only person I have heard of who has lived more than 20 years with the disease, so there is about a three-decade difference between the longest survivor and the second longest survivor. That is a more than 100% difference between first and second place. It would be like Justin Gatlin running the 100 meters in 9.8 seconds, and Usain Bolt beating him with a time of 4.5 seconds. In other words, statistically it doesn’t happen. The average survival time for ALS is four years. When Hawking was first diagnosed in 1963, doctors gave him two years to live. And yet here we are, 52 years later and counting. Should you believe it? Well, no. Like Becker, it appears the real Hawking did beat the odds and live for about 20 years. But at some point he was replaced. I have no proof he died, but I assume that is why they replaced him. He was a very useful public relations entity for physics, and they didn’t want to lose him. But rather than speculate on that, let us go right to the evidence. I won’t call it proof, since of course you are free to disagree with me. This is an opinion piece, not a court transcript; and even if it were a stamped court finding, you would be free to disagree with it. You don’t have to agree with anything anyone tells you, ever. Remember that. This paper is nothing more than presented evidence, evidence I find compelling. If you also find it compelling, fine. If you don’t, also fine.

Dr Hawking certainly typed more lucid, defined responses to questions, from the simple to the complex; issues about the universe, life, God, with humility and humanity utilizing just one functioning muscle near his eye than many of the voracious typographers/contributors of opinions/mores that flow continually through this board like crap through a goose (or geese). Rest easy, sir, you have earned the privilege after your excellent life and hard work for the enlightenment of the planet. "...and that's all I have to say about that."-Gumpism

My counter to Pascal's wager is what if you're PARTIALLY right, there is a God, but you've been worshiping the wrong one, thereby pissing off the real one more than if you hadn't bothered at all?
But that's all I'll say about that, if you've got a faith and it brings you peace and joy, I'm seriously happy for you.
As far as Dr. Hawking, I'm happy I had the chance to meet him back in the late 90's.
To live with a diagnosis of having less than 2 years to live for 50 years alone is quite a feat, IMHO...

I won't make a lot of friends with this I know. Stephen Hawking didn't know nearly as much as he or we thought he did. He was a very, very intelligent man with particular skills in extrapolating and speculation. Perhaps that's what the Serk meant is that it will take extrapolation and speculating to get Hillary Clinton in jail (at least in some of our dreams ).
