Stopped in and talked with J T the Butcher while he was at work. A guy we are sorta familiar with stopped and talked with us. The other guy has some alphabet soup classic Harley-his description-and seems the other night he comes up over a hill with a pickup stopped in his lane and he has approaching traffic. And he tells me and J T-THIS is where it gits interesting-he is Ready to throw it down-classic Harley-cuz he don't know if he can stop in time!  Lips Sealed Again-his words-it were close but I got er stopped. Looked him in the eye and asked him-didja use the front brakes too?  Roll Eyes His answer you ask? He'd rather-classic Harley-lay it down than go over the handle bars!!  Embarrassed After he left J T looks at me and asks-WHY would anyone rather lay it down than use the front brakes?  uglystupid2 I told J T THAT'S why you can find 12 15 year old Harleys with new brakes on the front-ORIGINAL new brakes.  Wink RIDE SAFE.

Does make you wonder where these Harley riders "learned" to ride....

Anyone, regardless of years on bikes or bike brand, that doesn't use the front brakes, has never actually learned to ride.

And anyone (like me) who goes riding on a bike with no front brakes at all needs his head examined (and a flashlight, shined in one ear, shines on the wall out the other ear).

On Honda sport bikes, I've been known to use only the FRONT brakes sometimes - sometimes hard enough to be a bit concerned about doing a "stoppie" (wheelie on the front wheel due to brakes). I don't do this on a Valk, however.... but I do use both front and rear brakes as properly taught in the MSF courses.

"There is no other part of the brain where lesions can cause such a wide variety of symptoms (Kolb & Wishaw, 1990). The frontal lobes are involved in motor function, problem solving, spontaneity, memory, language, initiation, judgement, impulse control, and social and sexual behavior."

To be fair, there are more than a few metric riders not using the front brakes and thinking about "laying it down".

I am aware there are folks mounted on M/Cs Other than Harley who should NOT by any stretch of the imagination be out on the highways! Just so happened this guy J T and I were talking to had a Lot of Harley paraphernalia on. Even his do rag was Harley "issue"! Seen folks on a P G R mission(s) that I did NOT want behind me. Namely cuz of the lack of KNOWING how to stop a M/C quickly without causing serious damage/injury/death. I do in FACT ride with some Harley riders that do KNOW How to brake correctly. Otherwise I wouldn't be taking scenic rides with them. But I'm sure a lot of us have met and talked with folks like/similar to the guy in the original post. We KNOW they are out there. Trick is to avoid them. RIDE SAFE.
