Per the constitution there are no qualifications or requirements to being a SCOTUS Justice. Traditionally they've had a background in law, but that's not prescribed by the constitution.

And yeah, I think Trey Gowdy would be a great associate justice personally. The list I posted was from a listing the Trump administration had previously released as their "short list", and today they said they'd go back to that same short list to replace Kennedy.

If a SCOTUS is not confirmed by November, watch the Dems(Socialists) pull out all stops to smear every Republican candidate for the Senate. It will be an absolute must to try for a Senate majority so they can "Bork" any selection by Pres. Trump.

The Court did what it should have done upholding Trump's immigration action against the main terrorist source countries.  That action was (and always has been) well within the Presidential powers (on mulitple levels).  And overturning the lower federal activist judges actions was right and corrrect.

But with his big mouth, it was no sure thing.  His constant tweeting and talking directly to the American people is without doubt part of his appeal to working (and thinking) America, and his populism.  And that is a good thing, except you have to watch what you say (from time to time).

But this case was the perfect example of why he is sometimes his own worst enemy.  Stopping (for the most part) all immigration from the leading exporters of terrorism is so common sense and consistent with protecting our national security as to be laughable to resist or obstruct it.  But his many statements about keeping all Muslims out, gave the left all they needed to wage a pretty successful campaign against it (including many federal judges, and 4 Supreme Court judges).  Just like his comments bordering on Command Influence in the Bowe Bergdahl court martial.  

But all one has to do is look at recent terrorist history (and rampant, unrestrained Islamic migranancy/vagrancy in the EU and worldwide to know that this is indeed where the majority of lunatics was coming from.  And their historic tendency to NOT adapt and adopt and assimilate to host nation laws and customs, and instead agitate and militate for their own laws and customs in all their new nations.

It's not like international terrorism is a bunch of Baptists, or Mormons, or Quakers, or Jews, or Catholics, or Buddhists, or Atheists.  It is Islamic Murderers plain and simple and without question.  Not that they are all murderers, no.  But clearly all of the worst are, and we have a right to exclude them from our country (with appropriate exceptions in place), and to expect a president to do so promptly in our behalf.

This immigration action is certainly within the clear Presidential Powers in the constitutional separation of powers. And given today's and recent votes, the Congress cannot be depended upon to protect us, so the President must.

Now it's time for Ginsburg to go.  Though I guess the only way that is going to happen is to be carried out with the sheet over her head.  Here's to that day.  

A spot on the Supreme Court is more important than any spot in Congress or even the Presidency.  It's a lot of hard work.  I'm retired, so count me out. But I will continue to lobby from the cheap seats.

If memory serves me, most of the terrorists came from Saudi Arabia. Which is not on the list, maybe due to their money and influence ?

IMO, all of the Justices deserve respect regardless of their thinking.  However, Ruth Ginsberg should recuse herself in any opinion connected with what the president wants to do. She declared open hostility to President Trump and I wonder if she can be trusted to be fair.

I would hope that she might see that she is compromised and retire.

Back in the day (way back), our little poker crowd had a few simple but effective rules.

Buy-in was low for everyone (and when you're out, you're out).   Raises were limited.  And winners had to drink a big shot of liquor, which had a tendency to level the playing field, with winners becoming gigglers as the evening wore on.

I'll be happy with any of Trump's choices I imagine, and I understand him sticking to his list, but, I do wish Ted Cruz was on that list!

I always believed in a balanced court and congress, then they went way left and I saw the errors of my ways.    RBG's open hostility to President Trump is reason enough to question her mindset and fairness, Sotomeyer is so far left, I can not imagine her ever being considered a fair jurist.

Hopefully, Pres. Trump will get to nominate someone to replace RBG sooner than later.    That would make my day.
