Great day of twisties. Pics never do the curves justice. The speedometer and the GPS are a better indication of the fun level.  Grin

If anyone is looking for a great trip...they have a really good website specifically for riders with maps, routes, etc.   http://mobile.ridethehighlands.ca

Apparently, you have not yet been separated from your motorcycle and experienced the helpless feeling of sliding down the tarmac waiting for friction to overcome inertia! When this happens, you’ll want the gloves on. Your hands, your choice, but the thought of what your hands would look like if you went down scares the hell out of me.

It was a pleasure meeting and riding with you at the Valhalla Rally!

Now put your gloves on. Smiley

I was wearing gloves when I came off the bike at turnpike speed.  Apparently the first thing that happened as my body was rolling and sliding down the pavement was my gloves, both, were pulled off.  It wasn't my fingers but the back of my hands that suffered.  The medical folks did their best putting flesh back on but even today any bump to the back of the hands results in a large bruise.

Some days I wear gloves.  Some days I don't.

Do your hands bruise easily because the skin is new and weak ? Or was there more damage ?

My guess is that it's because there is almost no flesh there resulting in the blood vessels being very close to the surface (no padding).

On the gloves thing:

First, there is no possible way to not put out your hands out to catch yourself if ejected from a moving motorcycle.  It's just reflexive action.

Second, hand injuries really hurt. I almost lost a finger in a chipper accident, and holy crap did that hurt, for a long time.  Years later, that finger still acted like a barometer, and ached before rain storms.  (I'd have just as soon watched the TV weatherman for that bit of information).

I'd ride shirtless before I rode gloveless.

best glove leathers for a wide range of temps are elkskin, deerskin and american bison.  cowleather is the worst, it has a very narrow comfortable temp range.
90F+ I wear a glove similar to this https://www.goclc.com/products/Work-Gloves-Hybrid/285

Stopped at Kakabeka Falls just outside of Thunder Bay yesterday.

Back on the prairies...did NOT miss the prairie winds.

Last leg today. Neither of us want it to be over.

Made it home. We did 5800km (3600 miles).

Almost 11,000 km(6800 miles) since my vacation started.  Met up with some good friends, had a few thousand solo miles to myself and some with the better half. She wanted to turn around this morning and not come home, she wasn’t ready to be done yet.

Only 1 small issue with the bike. The fuel door release button stopped releasing. Cable probably just needs some adjusting. After playing with it and swearing a bit, I found that it would still open if you pushed it really hard and fast. Will take it to the dealer this week and get sorted out.

I’ll leave this last pic...thought it was kinda funny and had to be posted here.

The fuel door release button stopped releasing.

That happened on my Valkyrie 1800... the  grease in the plastic
catch mechanism had become dirty and gummy.

In my desperation, I was going to spray something in there. But then I pictured Honda declaring my entire 5 year warranty null and void because I did that, figured I’d take it in to them when I got home once I figured out how to make it work.

It happened after the only rain we had, about 2 hours worth...I figured it would work itself out once it dried up or whatever, but nope. You’re probably right, just needs some lube.

And thanks Mr Whiskey.

Well, no luck with that. Was in at the dealer to grab some oil and a filter, I mentioned it at the service department. They said the same thing, probably just needs to be lubed. Came back a few minutes later saying it didn’t help. They’re going to have to take it all apart to further diagnose it. They’re booked up til mid August, but they said if I can leave it there, they’ll try and get a guy on it in the next day or two. So that’s what I did.

They got it done already. The metal tab dohickey that fits into the latch mechanism just needed to be adjusted(bent) a bit. All good now.  cooldude

Sorta embarrassing taking a bike to a dealer for something as simple as that...but when it’s on warranty...I ain’t taking anything apart that is their problem.  Grin

If I took mine in for warranty work, they'd probably take me out in the parking lot and beat me up.

We don’t have a single pic with either of us in them. We aren’t the selfie types.

We were at a nice spot and I asked her if I should ask someone to take our picture. She told me to piss off. That was the right answer. She’s so much like me.  Grin
