In honor of my Mom, a really special woman who did a really good job.

She signed a lot of things for me when I was younger - report cards, permission slips, absentee notes, etc., and as a kid I always admired her penmanship and the way she signed her name so neatly.  After her passing we started cleaning out the house in the Catskills as Dad won't be using it and could do better with the money.  Anyway, I started to find "official" paperwork and the image of her signature poppoed into my head.  I searched through reams of papers and documents and contracts to find a nice example of her signature.

Well, now I never have to look very far or hard...........   smitten

Beautiful tribute for your first ink...

I'm sure you've been warned, but careful, those things can be addictive... Hard to stop at one.

Everyone ought to do what he wants.   cooldude

You should not be surprised to be called Marion from time to time.  But hey, that was John Wayne's real name.

Point taken Gary.

I am was somewhat sensitive on this issue as my first name was viewed as a girl's name (exclusively) during most of my formative years, and a good number of resulting fist fights.  When you told me I had a girl's name, I punched you in the nose.  I was pretty unhappy with my parent's choice of my name.

My parent's explained that all of us kids were named from the Bible, and that Jesse was both a girls and boys name.  But not to my peers it wasn't. (And I'm not sure any Jesses in the bible were males either; I don't think so.)

My father (the smartest man I ever knew) also explained that if I would stop rising to the bait, and reacting to being called out with a girl's name, the harassment would stop.  He was right, as soon as I stopped taking it offensively, it stopped.

I would have been very happy with Tom, John, Bill, or even Gary.

I would not have been happy with Seymour or Marion however.   Grin

At least I wasn't named Moon Unit.  (Zappa)

AND: None of us were given middle names either, as that was viewed as simply pretentious.  I now have a middle name by social security and Medicare of None, and can't tell you how much trouble no middle name has caused me over the years.  I also think it's pretentious, but it's a big PITA when your round peg doesn't fit in computer data base's square holes.

Jesse was the father of David, the king of Israel.  I know of no females in the Bible named Jesse.

Mom had no middle name.  She was just Marion Lasher
Dad has a middle name, but not the one he was supposed to have.  He was supposed to be Seymour Harris Lasher, but his birth certificate said Seymour Harold Lasher and nobody noticed untill it was too late and it still worked well with his Hebrew middle name so they left it (the Jews in the audience will understand).

Was at camp one summer and called home collect.  At that time, you dialed "0" before the number, the operator would come and you would say "Collect from _______".  So I said "Collect from Gary Lasher" and the operator said "Very funny.  What would you like to do?"  I repeated "Collect call from Gary Lasher".  The operator said "You're only saying that because you heard me say my name."  I then realized that the camp was in the next town from where our cousins lived.  And the Mom worked for the local phone company.  I said "Is this Gary Joseph?"  He hesitantly said "Yes."  I said "This is Gary Matthew!!!"  He got summer job working for the phone company.  Yep, 2 Gary Lashers in the family.  He's my 3rd cousin (dad's 1st cousin's son).  Middle names.

Not that it matters, but my understanding is that he would be your second cousin. Dad's 1st cousin would be your first cousin once removed (ascending). cooldude

Thanks for that.  I was told, long ago that my parent's cousins are my second and that their children would be my 3rd (and my father's 2nd).  I never really understood about the once, twice, etc. removed.  Now I do.

In my ex wife's family the majority of them had Lee as their middle name.

Male or Female didn't seem to matter.

I never did understand why?

If they were south of the Mason Dixon Line, in honor of Robert E. Lee maybe?
