It was a great day for a ride

Up the goat trail (lots of tanker trucks going the other way and cars crossing the double yellow) Once on the west side of the Hudson no more trucks and west on Palisades to 7 Lakes Parkway and then down 106 which was finally OPEN   Smiley Smiley  Many decreasing radius turns, cars parked for hikers and such but pavement was in good shape

I would have given myself a 3 riding west and maybe a 5 riding back east but when I took the gnarly Lake Welch part and down to Gate Hill Road it was like just after I went down on the oil  IMHO I sucked.

Just could not get out of my head    tickedoff tickedoff downhill right turns were even worse than the lefts  At least I was in the correct gear, 3rd and 2nd and using gas thru the turns.  Wasnt holding up traffic as there was none so at least that was good

Interesting how city driving on the bmw does not translate into steep hill twisties on a Valk isnt it  I need a whole lot more practice on those roads before October that is for sure and for certain.  Yep practice practice practice is what is needed.

Took the Palisades to get some corned beef and pastrami, pickled beets and cole slaw to take to mom for lunch.  Made her day then she killed me in casino  Back home in gentle drizzle felt nice. Now I am pondering why it is I am tensing up on those downhills I have ridden so many times before with abandon.  No problem at 70 on the sweepers on the SawMill and over the windy bridge, its those twisties have got my number right now

Some days you eat the bear and some days the bear eats you.

You got out for a ride something to eat helped mom and got home safely, Id say that was a great ride.

Next time leave the critic at home it makes for much more enjoyable ride.  Wink

Sometimes my mojo is with me, sometimes it's not...

Heck some times I'm feel so out of the groove on a ride I might even consider slowing down and obeying most traffic laws! Wink

But... Any ride you can walk away from is a good ride, and ride you can walk away from and the bike is still ride-able is a GREAT ride...

...sounds like you had a great ride to me!

Maybe it's your guardian angel telling you to beware. Riding with abandon is fun, but not always sensible.

It’s amazing how our skills deteriorate...especially when you live on the flatlands. I have a high speed curve/overpass about a half hour out of town. Every time I take a trip out west, I go around that curve at 65mph or so. On the way back, after a week or 2 of mountain curves, I take it comfortably at 80 mph.

Like Serk said...you made it home and so did your bike...it’s a good ride.

We all have our off days when the mind is just not quite in gear..... a good thing to listen to your doubts....no point pushing it incase to on edge feeling is there for a reason, like something mechanically not quite right

Was the tire pressure etc checked..... that doubt on tire pressure can linger in the back of your mind if not checked Smiley

Sounds like the girl was reminding you she had been neglected; maybe even some jealousy over the OTHER woman.  I'm sure if you take her out a bit more, she'll calm down and you'll feel more comfortable again.

I will take you up on that

In particular any suggestions for roads with good pavement coming back from Hudson NY before re crossing the river as altho the Taconic is very scenic it is full of cops hiding in the bushes until past Bear Mtn Parkway

The only certainty is Claryville Rd from 55 to its end

I was thinking 106 to 1A to 97 to Hawk's nest then up 42 to 55 to Claryville rd. past Slade Mountain and up to Hunter Mtn for lunch  Yes its a long day but a great one

I took 106 back from visiting a friend in Monroe.  WHAT A GREAT ROAD ! ! ! ! !   They did a very nice job.  Road was a lot of fun with the Challenger.

You think you need practice ? ? ? ?

I have days sometimes where I just can't seem to get into the groove.

On those days I just accept it and decide that it's a good day to slow down and smell the roses.

All of your thoughts sound good to me I try not to worry about cops just stay within a reasonable speed and there is nothing to worry about! This said if you would like to make a dry run let me know!

Morning OSS.. Interesting report. I have found that IF I have been spending a bunch of time on one of my other bikes, then back on the Valk it feels, (I guess for a lack of a better description) kinda awkward for a bit. Within a short time all is good. Nothing to worry about.  Don't know how you guys ride around NY? I rode around there once and couldn't wait to escape. It's all good, take care!

Oss,

What rpm are in you whilst using 2nd and 3rd going downhill?

Do you have your feet on regular pegs or up on hiway pegs?

When you are sitting riding does the back of your hand to your wrist to the back of your forearm create one single flat plane?

I was doing some zip, zap, zooming today and yesterday and thinking about stuff.  Wink
