I've never typed out and then deleted a reply to a post on a thread more times than I have on this one.

I'm trying to follow this sage advice:

But seeing as the only vote I MIGHT regret more than my vote for McCain was my vote for Romney, I'll just say this...

...if it weren't for McCain, the rest of the world would never have known the wisdom, grace, intelligence and insight of Governor Sarah Palin. So he's at least got that going for him.

Great patriot.  Total self-serving jackass of a senator.  I never could bring myself to vote for him while I lived in AZ.  Sorta like Heller now.

I'm sad for those who will miss him and I hope he's in a better place.

I won't miss him and I'm glad he's finally off the political radar screen.

I'm glad Arizona will get a senator now to fill his spot. I thought, for his constituents, he should have resigned when he knew he would never return. I believe he did it to spite trump.

Interesting tidbit... Palin wasn't McCain's preference.  He wanted to pick Lieberman, then a democrat, but was convinced otherwise.  Funny thing though, Lieberman was more of a conservative than McCain.

Great man, war hero, and GOP moral compass served this blessed country his entire life (very few can say the same).

May he finally be able to rest in peace and I send my condolences to his family.

Don't know if he was a war hero, there are lots of conflicting accounts on how he served his country. But he did serve his country so I give him all the respect for that.
After the war though, he was the poster boy for term limits, no person should spend almost 40yrs making a career out of public service/politics. I wouln't consider him the GOP moral compass, he was definitely a RINO, playing for the other team, and playing for his own interests, definitely not playing for the best interests of his constituents, the American people.
His family will miss him, RIP.

All politics aside,  he served this country and deserves our respect and well wishes for the family.

I just came back from my uncle's wife funeral yesterday and read this, where I was a pallbearer,  and she had cancer that spread to the brain.  Drs. gave her 2-6 months to live initially and that was 2 years ago apparently.  Found out she was fine that same night cooking dinner nothing out of the ordinary and caring for her grandkid and all of a sudden things took a turn for the worse and she collaped falling down later in the evening.  Normally she would not go to Dr. but this time she did not fight going and agreed.  She died the next morning in the hospital.  Was married 52 years to my uncle.

Just goes to show you one minute you are fine (as fine as one can be with terminal cancer), the next minute you are not fine..   Cry

I did see my cousins/uncles/aunts, etc. though that I have not seen in about 10 years or more.  Some look the same, some not so good, a few in better health but not many.

Just got now the test results via email back from my mom's urine sample this morning typing this.  Looks like urinary tract infection and hoping nothing more will find out Monday morning when Dr. am sure will give me and the assisted living facility the news on what to do next.

one thing for sure getting older sucks with more health issues.  2 of my uncles and one aunt seen yesterday at funeral, all in their late 60's,  certainly are not in great shape either... Cry

As said before,  take it day by day and if I had time for a bucket list,  do it now for tomorrow might not come?

I'm one that happens to believe Col. Bud Day and what he has to say about John McCain. I think he is hero and a man that has taken responsibility for what has happened during his life. No one is perfect.  But, I didn't like his politics at times. I feel for his family.

My condolences to the McCain family.   He was a husband and father.   I'm sure he was loved and will be missed.

Having said that, he did not represent my views politically and although I do respect his service to our country just as I respect all of those who have served.    All that served voluntarily were equally courageous and heroic.    Being a POW does not make one a hero.  Senator McCain was a RINO of which
I have a hard time respecting.

Senator McCain was a typical long term politician who as an incumbent with financial resources was impossible to dethrone.  He was a perfect example and reason for term limits.   There are others, Mitch McConnell, Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters....................

For all you McCain haters out there. You may rest easy now, he is gone.

Was he a flawed man ? ABSOFREAKINGLUTELY ! Was he a RINO ? Maybe, but I doubt it. He voted with the Republicans and against the Democrats most of the time. One thing I disliked about him later in his career was he tried to portray himself as a hardcore conservative in the primary race against his opponent (whose name escapes me now). One thing I always liked about him was he could and did admit his flaws and moral lapses. Something we would all do best to be more like.

Horrible Things Liberals Said About John McCain Before They Fell In Love With His Anti-Trumpism

"Republican Senator John McCain died yesterday and liberals have been tripping over themselves to praise the man they once hated. This has less to with any genuine liberal respect for McCain and more to do with the fact that he became a vocal opponent of President Trump."

It's interesting how things have changed......

Benedict Arnold, Bradley/Chealsea Manning, and many others served in the military, some with early positive distinction, so I believe one must be careful to not heap praise on all who served. McCain had been heaped with both scorn and praise by fellow service members and civilians alike since day one, and I do not have any way of discerning what is true. I feel bad for those he leaves behind whom he loved, and loved him back. I wish Trump had had the restraint to say NOTHING about him personally during the election process(es) and I am glad that McCain can never hold office again. I wish he'd stepped down at least a decade ago, or at least been honest and switched parties. I also wish the voters of AZ had done their job and rendered him jobless, much as my own State of WI should have done with Paul Ryan. RIP John McCain.

I believe there is and was a controversy about John McCain being responsible for the fire aboard the USS Forrestal. I have read many of the stories as I was aboard the USS Saratoga, be it later in years from John's service, it just intrigued me. I don't know if they ever came to a concrete conclusion.
I didn't care for the man and never voted for him but I do wish his family peace and John too.

I assure you sir, there was no intent to link what I wrote to anything you have. Like Serk, I found myself wanting to acknowledge his passing in some way, but found myself unable to hit ENTER time after time, preferring to say nothing. If in any way a response, I suppose it was triggered by my head spinning like Linda Blair after I read, "GOP moral compass". John McCain was a very mean man, and was no party's moral anything IMO. Nothing wrong with anyone else believing that and expressing it here, I just couldn't remain silent after reading it.

Plain and straight talk from a dying man; please respect it.

The following farewell statement from the late Sen. John McCain was read aloud Monday at a press conference in Phoenix, by his former campaign manager Rick Davis:

“My fellow Americans, whom I have gratefully served for sixty years, and especially my fellow Arizonans,

“Thank you for the privilege of serving you and for the rewarding life that service in uniform and in public office has allowed me to lead. I have tried to serve our country honorably. I have made mistakes, but I hope my love for America will be weighed favorably against them.

“I have often observed that I am the luckiest person on earth. I feel that way even now as I prepare for the end of my life. I have loved my life, all of it. I have had experiences, adventures and friendships enough for ten satisfying lives, and I am so thankful. Like most people, I have regrets. But I would not trade a day of my life, in good or bad times, for the best day of anyone else’s.

“I owe that satisfaction to the love of my family. No man ever had a more loving wife or children he was prouder of than I am of mine. And I owe it to America. To be connected to America’s causes – liberty, equal justice, respect for the dignity of all people – brings happiness more sublime than life’s fleeting pleasures. Our identities and sense of worth are not circumscribed but enlarged by serving good causes bigger than ourselves.

“‘Fellow Americans’ – that association has meant more to me than any other. I lived and died a proud American. We are citizens of the world’s greatest republic, a nation of ideals, not blood and soil. We are blessed and are a blessing to humanity when we uphold and advance those ideals at home and in the world. We have helped liberate more people from tyranny and poverty than ever before in history. We have acquired great wealth and power in the process.

“We weaken our greatness when we confuse our patriotism with tribal rivalries that have sown resentment and hatred and violence in all the corners of the globe. We weaken it when we hide behind walls, rather than tear them down, when we doubt the power of our ideals, rather than trust them to be the great force for change they have always been.

“We are three-hundred-and-twenty-five million opinionated, vociferous individuals. We argue and compete and sometimes even vilify each other in our raucous public debates. But we have always had so much more in common with each other than in disagreement. If only we remember that and give each other the benefit of the presumption that we all love our country we will get through these challenging times. We will come through them stronger than before. We always do.

“Ten years ago, I had the privilege to concede defeat in the election for president. I want to end my farewell to you with the heartfelt faith in Americans that I felt so powerfully that evening. I feel it powerfully still.

“Do not despair of our present difficulties but believe always in the promise and greatness of America, because nothing is inevitable here. Americans never quit. We never surrender. We never hide from history. We make history.

“Farewell, fellow Americans. God bless you, and God bless America.”

"Plain and straight talk from a dying man; please respect it." You can't be serious. It's a self-serving statement from the person under discussion. Obama gave plain and straight talk that we could all keep our insurance and doctors - he knew that was BS. Nixon said he wasn't a crook, I didn't buy HIS statement, either.

I guess someone else says she's aligned with someone else? Or maybe some of those
people on her list are "white supremacists" and "conspiracy theorists"? What people, especially
in today's rhetoric filled public conversation, assert about others is worthless a lot
of the time. What people assert about themselves, though...
