A friend of mine just bought a 1976 Honda CL360 scrambler for $600,  The bike is 100% original 8000 miles he cleaned it got it running and sold it for $2250. The bike had some rust on all the chrome including the wheels the paint was in good shape with fading on the side covers. I took it for a ride it and it rode like a old bike it was slow and really didn't do anything special. I wouldn't want it but I'm not a collector.
So why do they bring that kind of money?
For a little more money you can buy a Valkyrie I don't get it!
Here one  exactly like it;

Because they were one of the finest looking bikes of the time.    I was 26 at that time but it's predecessor the 305 scrambler that looked like it in around 1968 when I was 18 I wanted and drooled over.   They are popular because of memories of the old riders.  I would love to have one now just to look at in the garage.

No idea why anyone would pay that much.  When I was 16 I owned a CL175 looked the same but blue it could barely got out of it own way.  I think I hit 70 wide open may have been down hill at the time and it was screaming to do it!  I have found memories but I wouldn't want another one!

It is a great looking bike I wanted one back in the 70's but I bought a CJ360T at the time because it was a couple hundred less.
It did great but I don't want it back.

I think it's becoming a trend around the big cities . Easy to get around on and you don't need to go fast anyway. I've purchased 3 older bikes, all between 1980 and 85. 1 Kawi, which I cut up and bobbed. And 2 Hondas. One I just cleaned up, got it running good again and sold. Then this 3rd one I'm chopping and building a café racer. It' a 83 650sc. I'm about 3/4 complete and have it sold already for 2950. Paid 300. Got about 500 in it. Gonna look similar to this.

If that price gets your attention, how about this?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-CZ100-1964-Restored-Monkey-bike-Z50A-AU-CZ100-Z50M-Z50A-48CC/362194265171?hash=item545475e453:g:olYAAOSwMmBV4~lK

Collecting is collecting, but since Honda is making these again I think if I was in the market for a Monkey bike (which I am not) I'd buy a new one that could be ridden instead of a restored one for display.

For that kind of money, you should get the monkey too.   Grin

one can ask any amount of money, to get it is another.  They say there is a sucker born every minute I guess?  For that ONE person wanting it, good luck finding him/her.  They are out there, but few and far between.

I have seen the same thing going for 1983-1986 honda V65 magnas as well recently as my cycle I still have thinking of selling being a 1994-2001 magna 750cc.  GREAT bikes, but neither one even close to being worth 3K or more even if in mint condition.   Near new way back in the 80s and 90s one could pick up either bike under 4K very easily, most under 3K easily.   Why some 20-30 years later one would pay even close to 3K now is beyond my reasoning.

Our 1997 black good conditioned, good running, magna 26K miles with a few extras and good tires/newer chain-sprockets, pretty sure I can ask 2300 but would settle for probably 2200 selling price.  Then again,  not much worth buying nowadays in a cycle under 2 grand in good running condition either.  heck, 50cc scooters with 5K miles on them are still fetching near 1 grand so for double that amount of money you can get a much faster and more comfy cycle.  To ask 3 grand though is IMO unreasonable.

The old Hondas were cool to ride. I bought this ‘73 CB 175 for $200 it had never run right from the factory.  The bike had less than 1000 miles Turned out to be a plugged carb vent. No dealer figured out. I bought it in 1999 it was almost 30 years old and I had to break it in once I got it running.

Sold it in 2003 for $600 and had put over 10K miles on the thing.

I did like it though
