Have a very specific question about the possibility of bringing my bike with me when I go abroad in Europe. Has anybody else tried something like this? I'm personally very new to the whole process and a little intimidated, but I can't pass the chance to ride in a foreign land  Cool

What I've done so far is the smallest amount of research which amounts to everything on this website: https://www.wcshipping.com/motorcycles but what's good is that I have still have more than half a year to prepare for the trip. Wanted input if I could get any on what people think and any advice is appreciated. Thanks a bunch - Ed

I have no idea of the cost or reliability of shipping a bike overseas.  But you might Email Dag Verpede (sp?), our Norwegian friend (and Norway VRCC rep) and ask his advice.  He (and others over there) have shipped back a number of US Valks.  He doesn't post here much, but he has a website, and do a search on here for Norway Dag.

Another guy is Andy from Germany.

It seems to me, the smarter move would be to plan to buy a bike over there, and sell it before you leave.  That also may be a PITA, but less cost than shipping.

The best plan of all might be to buy a Valk here (on the East Coast), ship it over and ride it, then sell it over there before returning.  Word is, Valks over there get much more money than in the US these days.  Not only might you break even, you might even make a few bucks.

You'll have to wear a full face helmet (most places), and probably need an International Driver's License (and I don't know if those have MC endorsements or not).

There's also rentals (at specific locations of your trip).  I found the driving in Turkey and Germany to be exceptionally exciting (not always in a good way), and I was always in a car.

Ireland accepted our AZ licenses. The problem I see besides cost, is what if your bike doesn’t arrive on schedule ? Stuck in Timbuktu with no bike doesn’t sound much fun. I’d sure be interested in how it works out though  cooldude

Attic Rat is also a good source to ask, I know he has sold some Valkyrie's to people abroad and had to ship them over sea's.

Get an international drivers license  and save a lot of problems if you should happen to get stopped.  AAA has them over the counter for $20.00 (if I remember). Bring two passport photos. We had an issue in Germany and the license kept us out of trouble as it was printed in a language the leo could read. Paid the fine and went on our way.

Do not know if you can travel with copies  , never had to  , still ,   it sure is a secure feeling  knowing it's there , gotta come in handy  if you do lose  everything .

Here , at home I have  copies in all my vehicles  and when I travel out of country I keep several copies  in suit case and pockets of clothes

BTW , was not my idea , got it from someone else  ,   although , I am surprised  I did not think of it on my own .  Smiley

I don't know any specifics, but we ran into a couple from Europe a few years ago who had brought their bikes with them to the U.S.  The bikes came on the same plane with them.  They said by the time they cleared customs/immigration, their bikes were sitting ready for them to ride away.  Sounds like something the airline arranged?

The other issue to figure out is where you can get insurance for the bike.  Your current bike insurance may not cover you overseas.

I'll bet that was expensive.
I know in Romania you can rent and ride, Not Valkyries though. The Harley shop in Bucharest has rentals.  The riding there in the mountains is great.
