Sometimes my internet connection through my ISP gets really slow. When everything is running normally, the messages flying by in the task bar are going by so fast they are difficult to read. When the ISP slows down, the messages in the task window are easier to see. This afternoon, I was on VRCC and i noticed something a little weird. First of all, I was not into FB. I stay logged in but FB was not running. It started to take a long time to go from one screen to the next when I noticed in the task bar 'waiting on facebook.com'. Again, I was not into FB but I remain logged in so that I do not have to enter the password when I run it. Why was the computer waiting on FB when it was not even running in the background?

Does anyone wan to venture a guess as to why the Chrome browser is waiting for facebook.com to load when I am not running facebook?

Chrome Browser = Google = Tracking Facebook interfaced to Chrome Browser probably not for your benefit. Could be simple as an ad or as bad as tracking.
Why would you use Chrome do you want Google to market to you and track you. Next are you going to tell me you use Gmail.
Stop using Chrome, Bing, Google, Facebook, Yahoo, AOL, etc or expect them to know almost everything you do.

Well, thanks for the reply. you don't leave many programs to use. I use Chrome and Firefox. Firefox is not suited for everything.

I've noticed Chrome sometimes ends up with zombie processes hung in the background (Not nefarious, just there eating up resources) and they won't always terminate cleanly, even if you completely exit Chrome.
What I do is a forced terminate on the chrome processes from time to time, then start it back up fresh.
If you want to try this when you're seeing the weird sessions, open a command prompt with admin rights:
Start -> Type in CMD and when you see the "Command Prompt" option come up, RIGHT click on it and select "Run as Administrator"
Once the command prompt with elevated rights is up type this command in:
taskkill /f /im chrome.exe
This will forcefully terminate any running process called "chrome.exe"
Once that finishes, launch Chrome fresh and see if it's behaving a little better.
One other observation - Because of a vulnerability recently discovered in almost all CPUs, newer versions of Chrome are running about 33% less efficiently as part of the mitigation of the discovered vulnerability (Spectre/Meltdown)

Not trying to hijack the thread but I have used Firefox for several, well 5 or more years and never found a situation where it did not work as expected. I'd be interested in issues you have had using it.
