Just a friendly reminder...

Before you tear the rear end of your Valk apart, taking saddle bags off, fighting with the rear rotor to compress the pistons and all the other fun stuff that's entailed with that so you can change the rear brake pads...

BEFORE you start off on this quest...

Check, and double check, to make sure that the rear brake pads you have on hand to do this job are indeed the CORRECT rear brake pads to do this job with...

tickedoff tickedoff tickedoff tickedoff tickedoff tickedoff tickedoff tickedoff tickedoff

And of course I couldn't do this on a day when there's a Honda dealer open for even a slight chance of getting the right pads today either...

C'est la vie...

Ya' live, you learn, you learn again, then you learn the lesson once more just to make sure, then you remember the lesson for a few years, think you've got it this time, and make the same mistake once more just to amuse the Fates...

Hope ya'll are having a good Labor Day...

*Grumble grumble, shambling off to the garage to see if I can pull a rabbit out a hat just in case I have the right pads in the bottom of a box somewhere...*

when I value my time at 10 cents an hour I try to fix it myself..always in a hurry...no lift...poor light...not having done one before....the $3K to replace the wiring harness on the Indian after I shorted out the ECM which sits on top of the 4 year dead battery I was certain I could replace right? tickedoff..

I could be wrong on this, so check first. But I think the front pads are the same, just not as thick as the rears. If you have some on hand, it will save you from having to wait. They will just wear out sooner. (But, like I said. Check first)

Yeah, I saw that on my Googling, but don't have any of those either...

Thanks though...

Seems the part number for the rears are pretty specific to Valkyries too, will be interesting to see if any local shops actually have 'em on hand or if I'll be venturing into the wilds of the Amazon to get 'em...

I’d be willing to bet there are many of your Lone Star buddies nearby with some on hand .  cooldude

I've got a set for a standard. I believe I-states have a different part number, but they will work.

You still had to do that work anyway.

So now you wait a few days.

(This is why I keep a parts bin with at least one of most every wear part for two bikes)

So order extras while you're at it.

And take the extra time to polish and detail it.   Grin

------------

I been waiting for a cooler spell to mow the yard.  But we aren't getting any cooler spells (and I'm not mowing at 3AM), so I did it anyway.  It was only 93 (feels like 143).  It's not a dry heat.

On the upside, if I die from a stroke or heart attack out in the front yard, some neighbor might wonder why the old dude is sleeping out in the sun and check me out.

He's not dead, he's just sleeping.

Yeah, but what are the odds that there'd be someone here in The Republic who has a spare set, is reasonably close to me, is willing to part with their spare set, and happens to see this thread? Hang on, I've got another call coming in on the other line...

Woot! Thanks Daniel! Got 'em and installed 'em, seems a little tight (The rear tire is hard to spin by hand, but it does spin). Brief test ride in the rain and seems good to go...

Thanks again! It's good to live ~20 minutes from Daniel's blah suburban house! Wink

The difference between front and rear pads is not the shape but the thickness of the brake pad material.
