My brother and I will be spending next week in Marion VA with hopes of riding The Back of The Dragon (Rt 16) and some of the other popular motorcycle roads in that area.

I'm looking for any advice, from folks that have ridden up in this area, on roads/rides that we should absolutely try besides those listed on the Back Of the Dragon web site.

We've done Moonshiners 28, Cherohalah Skyway (sp), Tail of the Dragon, etc at least a dozen times in past years and we've been told Marion is the center for some outstanding raods.

Any amazing things to see up in that area ?

Appreciate any feedback

There's good roads on either side of 77 in the vicinity of the two
tunnels (Big Walker and East River). Burkes Garden (a googleable
geographic feature) is way worth riding through.

Cant go wrong on any 2 lane up in that area. Ridden many miles in that area.
Where are you staying? Many good spots in Bristol Va. just a few miles south of Marion. Also some good spots in Abingdon but not as many places to eat.

The Chamber of Commerce In Wytheville Virginia has an excellent maps under Visit of all the local MC roads in that area. you can pull it up on line. One of my favorites in VA 80. A hidden gem and well worth then trip.

Was just in Abingdon, VA for five days last week. Everything mentioned above is great.

- Worth the trip to Tennessee to ride US421, The Snake, between Holston Valley and Mountain City.

- The Burke's Garden advice is good..... when you get into the valley, follow the signs to the "restaurant/store" right over the bridge. It is run by an Amish woman and her two daughters... they have a little deli-type counter for sandwiches and the like.... really really good. Also ask her if she will make you a blueberry fried pie.... out of this world.

You might want to take a look at a couple of the InZane posts from Roanoke. Lots of good ride and food recommendations.

Unfortunately, there are no hotels in Tazewell that are worth staying in (they're dumps).

I'm in Tazewell often for work and stay at the Bluefield Comfort Inn:

https://www.choicehotels.com/virginia/bluefield/comfort-inn-hotels/va447?source=gyxt

It's decent and is motorcycle friendly.

A search of Air BnB found 2 places that are within walking distance of the brewery:

https://www.airbnb.com/s/Tazewell--VA/homes?refinement_paths%5B%5D=%2Fhomes&checkin=2018-10-05&checkout=2018-10-07&adults=2&children=0&infants=0&click_referer=t%3ASEE_ALL%7Csid%3A7ed575a7-db49-43e8-9f55-e4c52d8d1b6a%7Cst%3ALANDING_PAGE_MARQUEE&allow_override%5B%5D=&zoom=16&search_by_map=true&sw_lat=37.10967612198458&sw_lng=-81.52387785704241&ne_lat=37.11797877156342&ne_lng=-81.51226925642595&s_tag=7KdkQiab

There are no taxis in the area and we couldn't find any Uber drivers this past spring.

There is a good place in Bluefield, WV that I go to often:

https://railyardwv.com/

On Friday and Saturday nights they have a shuttle service that will take you to and from the hotel.

Rt 80 is a great ride.

If you make it check out Breaks Interstate Park:

Thanks Mark! Lookin' like I might try & do a coupla 300 mile days (always "interesting" since neither one of us like to be up before check out on our days off, lol). Wanna ride Breaks, 80, & 16. We saw that Three Sister's Inn on Air B&B & might try them cause the next day I'd like to get in Rocky Gap, Troutdale, Damascus, Mountain City & Shady Valley on the way home. Anybody know if they finished paving The Snake west of Shady Valley? Road was pretty narly last time we ran it Shocked
