Musician earplugs

I was looking for some better earplugs, I have really small ear canals...foam ones don’t go in or stay in, the rubber ones hurt after being in for a while. Removing the helmet was very painful after a while.

My work health plan covers hearing aids and custom molded hearing protection, so I figured I’d get some. I didn’t want to get regular molded earplugs, I wanted to be able to hear the Sena for music, Nav and intercom, and also wanted to still hear horns and traffic sounds.

I found they make musician earplugs. They have a changeable filter, specifically 9dB, 15dB and 25 dB. They are made for musicians, so they are designed to let all frequencies through, just at a lower level. I got the 25 dB ones.  They are pricey ($250...but my plan covered them 100%).  I can still hear the Sena (have to turn the volume way up) but all wind noise is gone. I really like the short windshield on my Wing...I like the wind, but the wind noise was excessive with a head/side wind. Now I can enjoy the wind and don’t need a barn door for a windshield to save the hearing.

They are very comfortable. They sit flush to the ear, so the helmet doesn’t push them into your ear.

Pretty much the same I have, custom made ear plugs. Had them for working on our mail insertor at the bank statement dept, worn for 8 hr work days. Noise level was just below Workers Comp requirements for wearing hearing protection, so work paid for them, $200 back in 90'. I used them for shooting too. Only one level of sound thou.

We used to oil them up weekly with baby oil, to keep them hydrated. Other wise they dry out. Find out who to keep yours looking new. Oh, I used to wash with dish washing liquid every day.

my favorite earplug and they last much, much longer than single use.
I have been using these for yrs, done 8-10 hr days without a problem, they stay pretty soft.

I did a search on Amazon to find similar earplugs that are affordable.  Good product, changeable filters. After a few hours though, they hurt my ears and it kills me to take the helmet off. They hurt the wife’s ears too, but not as bad. I suppose it depends on your ears.

I have very small ear canals too. I went to Hobby Lobby and picked up some, " Amazing Mold Putty".  Mix it up, mold to ear canal and bingo, you have a perfect pair of ear plugs that actually fit your ear canal.
My next trick was to mold in music buds to the mold. Easy peasey, bingo, custom ear plugs with music.
Cost? about $12, I've made 3 molds for ears so far, have enough left for 3 more pair.  $12 and 30 minutes for custom fit ear plugs.
