Good luck, God bless and stay safe.

I know it’s just a few words that are often applied to many different situations but it comes from the heart. Hoping and wishing it fizzles out.

As of now we're not in the path, may get some rain, wind and strong surf conditions.
Brick,NJ about 115 miles north of the tip of NJ (Cape May) and a few miles inland off the coast.

Right now my concern is my 2 kids at U Delaware are suppose to drive home Friday afternoon and return to school Sunday afternoon/evening. My daughter has a dr. appt Friday afternoon for a recurring foot issue they've been trying to resolve.

I'm not to far from the SC/NC border, about 1.5 miles in from the beach.I'm a paramedic so I"m exempt from the evacuation orders, I'll stay at the house unless it starts getting hairy, then I'll grab the dog and hightail it to the nearest fire station.

Good luck to all those affected.  How in the hell do you evacuate a million folks?  Where do they go?

They were saying they were opening all lanes to go out. It helps immensely to have them start now and not wait till the last minute. Probably 300 miles is all that's needed to save your life. Friends, family, hotels, shelters. It's the old and alone people that will have a hard time. I'm sure many of the good folks in the Carolinas will help their elderly neighbors.

When it looked like Florrie was heading towards me I filled gas cans, bought food and some bottled water, filled up my 320 gallon propane tank, ordered a gennie.

Over dramatic?

Not after the beating Irma gave to the area I now live in  this time last year.

Many were without power for a week or more.

Even though I'm not there anymore, I'm following the local news there on what is happening. Wife is following the Wake Forest Community and others on Facebook. All of you in the storm path - get out if you live where it has flooded in a hurricane in the past. Head W and Northwest.

Be safe.

And if you ARE going to be trying to power your house with your generator - DO IT SAFELY and disconnect your main power breaker while you're running on the Generator. There have been threads on VRCC on how to  do this safely for you AND the Power company linemen.

I think that would be; soak, followed by a spin and rinse.

Up here in No VA, we don't really know if we're in the path or not.

The projections take it further West, but weather guessers and computer models aren't an exact science.

We'll certainly get something.... but what?

On the upside (not really), the water table is about as high as it can get already from all the recent torrential rain.

I have a good generator and good gas, and am praying not to use it.

Sort of like divorce lawyers and fire extinguishers.  Smiley

Best wishes for those further South.

The local news is predicting up to 20" of rain and flooding worse than the flood of 1985:

https://youtu.be/2yA5n2nFmdw

One of my brother's lived on this street.

His neighbor across the street had been a Navy Seal, the water rose so fast that it was all he could do to get his wife and himself up into a tree in their front yard.

Two women drowned in their house, the man that had been a Navy Seal tried to get to them and nearly drowned himself.

He barely made it back to the tree that he put his wife in.

I remember him saying that listening to those to women scream and beg for help would haunt him forever.

The creek that did all this could normally be stepped across without getting your feet wet.

All of the houses on that street were destroyed.

The City bought the land and built a park, named after the two women who drowned.

There is one track for this storm that has it missing Roanoke, I hope that one is right.

Around me locally we had 14 inches in 8 or so hours with one casualty, but was not widespread like this will be nor as strong of winds, etc.

Cannot imagine 20 inches, get out soon if in danger of flooding.

The latest is that it may turn farther south than they first predicted.

It's looking like South Carolina may get the bulk of the rain.

There's still one computer model that has it coming to VA though.

The only positive I can see in a natural disaster heading our way is that most everyone can agree on what to do. The side benefit is it puts partisan politics on the back burner for a short time. I hope people in nursing homes and such are being evacuated to safe ground, there have been cases where they were an after thought. Same goes for pets.

There's a cold front coming eastward that angles SW to NE. This is pushing Florrie a tad more to the west.

Florrie changed course and will  be parked directly over Clayton at about 8 am Monday morning.

Unless she's changes again. But it's the cold front that's the problem.

Wife said over 79,000 North Carolinians out of power so far -

Met 4 people tonight who have come to Clayton to get away from Florrie.

2 young ladies  - Army officers from Wilmington.  Very cool people.

Both OIC logistics.

No, no, no. Just friends. Came to stay with ones Uncle who lives north of Clayton.

He rides and has a garage full of bikes. No Valkyries. Says he's too short at 5ft 4 ins.

I like weather.

Driving fairly south this afternoon at about 2.30 the sky to my SSE was blue sky and big white fluffy clouds.

Directly behind me to the north over Clayton the sky was near black.

You could have used a razor blade to cut between the blue and black.

FEMA even uses a 'Waffle House Index' to determine how severe a storm is, based on whether the chain shuts down locations or limits its menu. Waffle House pre-stages supplies and relies on generators to remain open during storms

Interesting fact. cooldude

I understand wanting to protect your home and property.

But when they're predicting 10ft of storm surge and up to 40" of rain?

Sometimes you just have to grab the stuff that can't be replaced and haul butt out of there.

That's what you have insurance for.

I wonder how many years of college it takes to learn how to brace oneself in hurricane force winds?  It sure seems popular by the media weather folks.

I was watching one of this morning. And sadistically I was kind of wishing he’d get knocked on his butt.

Caller to local radio station this morning said he used to have family in the New Bern area.

Problem was as soon as people evacuated others would loot your property before the storm arrived.

And the same if someone knew you went on vacation.

I'd never do it but it must be tempting not to be sitting in your home and yelling surprise with a shotgun as someone breaks in thinking the house has been vacated for a while.

Could solve the local problem fairly quickly.  Evil
